I am not kidding.
Well, hell. So it sounds like, when it comes to building a strong alumni base, Martin Hall is achieving the physically impossible.
I’m closer to 70 than 60…it’s sadly now obvious, later in life, to me, having seen two ADs that are absolutely game changers, the college I feel so much passion for is nothing more than all talk, no action.
If Maggard up and left today, I would not blame him. And I’m sure the search radius won’t be nationwide…parish wide if we’re lucky.
We DESERVE to be called ULL. When it comes to athletics, our leadership can’t think outside the box, or past the city limits.
Most of us here are older alumni. Martin Hall does not care for our passion, only our money. Why are we passionate? Most here either participated in UL athletics or we attended the games and had memorable experiences. Talk about missing the point 101.
How about a new name for RCAF members…”The Two Thousand”. Because that’s all UL will get with their approach. And we’re aging out.

This is insane! I didn’t know this.

Trail rides definitely don’t take off. They are usually slow and they stink.

I know a cattle rancher/horse trainer, he says trail rides "Smell Like Money."

I have been on many a trail ride in my days and in the end, they all stink. Horses at a trail ride are normally not on ranches or races.

Translation: What you call "stink" brings in money thus the "trail ride" smells like money.
Empty stadiums smell great and generate zero dollars.

Re: Dr Maggard Being Proactive (student support)
Trust me, nobody in their right mind are leaving their horses tied up at Cajun Field and going into the stadium for a football game. But have at it.

You obviously missed the post about Blackham.
It's already done for the rodeo at Blackham and the Cajundome. Not everyone stays with the horses.

Round em up!
Make every game at The Swamp a major event. ... warts and all.

Re: Dr Maggard Being Proactive (student support)
More or less I am not talking about everyone on this trail ride. The people that mainly do it, would be in it. Would have to pay or have people or businesses that would sign up to be in jt. I am thinking more or less like a Parade of horses, wagons, with a zydeco band, UL’s Band, Football team, Cheerleaders Fraternities, University Organizations etc..
We start from Blackham, and make a big circle around Cajun Field and end in Blackham, where they can keep there horses and buggy’s and they would be busses waiting transport them to Cajun Field or to there cars .
It be like Mardi Gras, get the Fraternities involved and put it together. Hopefully a crowd will show up!
Have vendors at Cajun Field where everyone would gather and a Zydeco band. Just make it a big party where football is the main event !
We are the Ragin Cajuns!! Make it Cajun or Creole! Something that aligns with our traditions and values

Re: Dr Maggard Being Proactive (student support)
I like the ideas, but I'm not a fan of an actual trail ride. I am still all about the idea floated months ago relocating ALL tailgating on the east side of CF (shutting down Cajundome Blvd). I think combining all of our tailgaters (fan/alumni/students) would make a livelier and more connected gameday.
Got Bourgeois Park, Greek Row, Practice Facility, Cajundome (Cajundome Table), Lamson, APC/IPF.
Band and football team doing Cajun Walk down Cajundome Blvd or Reinhardt.

Re: Dr Maggard Being Proactive (student support)
Now that’ a trail that would be worth riding on.

How many people do you think that actually participate in trail rides on the weekends also have an interest in Cajuns athletics? My guess is that number is very low and a trail ride would not move the needle one bit as far as football crowd go. I have seen both and they are not the same crowds. For the most part trail riders aren't going into any stadiums except for maybe rodeos or anything goes horse shows.

I am down. Even if you have open tailgating on the Cajundome side I like the idea of open tailgate on the NEZ of the stadium.
I be real there has to be way to rearrange the parking, tailgating, paid tailgating, student tailgating etc. more efficient and effective.

You hit the nail on the head.
Get the low, interest individuals (and there are many) interested.
Keep doing this across many niche markets and eventually you will think you, hit the motherload.

Exactly!! A person from Rayne, Kaplan, Opelousas, Church Point, New Iberia is not coming to a Cajuns game. Maybe if you graduated and went to a couple sporting events.
The key to me is we have to appeal to the surrounding towns around Lafayette.
What do these towns do for fun? Well let’s do that at Cajun Field!!
New Iberia has a Sugarcane festival, well we need to have a Sugarcane festival at Cajun Field.
Breaux Bridge has a Crawfish festival well we need to have a Crawfish Festival at Cajun Field.

Tie this in with my idea of the "Event Ticket" strategy. Turn the Game ticket into a ticket to the all day Event, football game included. To enter the area within the fences around Cajun Field, you must have an Event Ticket. That's your attendance.

Great idea!! Yes that is smart. Also RFID chips you can purchase and put money on, that you can use to buy food or drinks not just in the stadium but anywhere while you at the event around Cajun Field.
Also have an happy hour one hour before kick off where drinks are half price!
Some people my not make it to finish the game lol!?
-
Re: Dr Maggard Being Proactive (student support)
So the 10 hands (5 people) that are at the tailgate to prepare and serve food and beverages must now have a ticket to the game?
