It will take a quality salesman, and he and his group would be wise to include recruiting footprint.
Selling Louisiana's footprint as the most desirable thing on earth.

Yes.
The Big-12 needs a place to pee in the sec's backyard. UCF helped, but aside from that, we are the next best public school in that footprint. They'll either go Tulane or us.

Today, Tulane has a major airport. That’s the deal maker.
I won’t belabor what we need just to have a chance.

Can’t charter flights go direct? Thus alleviating the advantage of a major airport?

Correct, most teams that charter do not fly into the major airports.

That's UL's catch 22. We won't play these schools unless we get a 1 for 1, so we don't play them. But, by not playing them, we don't build relationships and they never visit our campus and see our facilities. At some point, you need to schedule 2 for 1 or even 3 for 1 or never get have a shot at anything, which is where we are now.

Agree a million percent. This is my biggest disagreement with our AD.

But, but, but, but, but we HAVE TO have 6 home games, or the World will end. If we don't schedule "insert MAC school here", we will be guaranteed a losing season, kill season ticket sales and be the laughingstock of all serious people.
Good God, man. Are you crazy?

Geography. They’re the opportunity and footprint into Houston metroplex. I’d take Rice over TxSt seven days a week and twice on Sunday not to mention losing the Hoax.

I would take UTSA over both

AAC West plus 2 more.
UTSA
Rice
North Texas
SMU
Tulsa
Wichita State
Memphis
Southern Miss
Tulane
Louisiana
The only possible conference lineup better for us would be a P5 league.
Turning down an invite to AAC West would be one of the worst decisions in the history of this school.

Again, SMU is leaving. Word is Tulsa is trying to get into the MW and Rice and Tulane are potential PAC targets because Arizona, Arizona St., Colorado & Utah will eventually be I the Big 12. Oregon, Washington and Stanford will likely get into the B1G so that leaves Oregon State, Washington State and Cal in the PAC along with some G5 AAU schools. The PAC and MW will then merge to a certain degree. This will all happen in the next 10 years.
Accepting an invitation to AAC would be the worst decision in the history of the school and EXTREMELY short sighted! The SBC is seriously in a position of power in the G5…stay the course!

Old article, but good one.
Cannot wait for the phone to ring!
The iron was hot and we sat on our ARSE! We are more worried about what bathroom everyone uses.

That would be one hell of a trip from Arizona to W Virginia!

100% facts! Definitely not disputing that.

That will be the new super conference geography. Outside of the SEC, which will no doubt take the best brands from the ACC, you will see cross country Conference foes.

If you want to move up to a P5 conference, you do so in incremental steps like TCU did. UL needs to be a part of the AAC if it ever hopes to move to a P5 conference. The SBC, CUSA and MAC are the bottom dwellers of 1A football, whether we like it or not. The AAC and the MWC have the perception that the SBC will never achieve as historically it was the worse conference for years. It is certainly much better now, but no team will move from it directly to a P5 conference, like the AAC and soon the MWC. The AAC has established itself as the top G5 conference. Even after losing UH, Cincy and UCF, its perception remains. Move to the AAC or forever be relegated to the SBC. Unfortunately, I think Dr. Savioe is satisfied with the status quo athletically and has no ambitions to move up and let athletics match academics. Too bad, because now is the time that we can finally do that.
TCU was a founding member of the Southwest Conference and was a member of the Western Athletic Conference, Conference USA, and the Mountain West Conference before joining the Big 12.

You couldn’t be more wrong when it comes to the future. Your thinking is archaic. The SBC is now perceived as a top G5 football conference. You realize ESPN is paying the new AAC members nearly the same payout as the SBC? I just don’t understand the obsession some here have with the new American. Once the contract is renegotiated with the AAC and ESPN in a few years, the old guard will be upset and you will see ECU join the SBC. You don’t realize how good of a situation we are in.
I’m willing to bet you $100 by 2034 the SBC will have more CFP participants than any other G5. That is a 10 year sample size.
