Damn Auburn....always ____ blocking us

G5 or non power conference?
G5, there are 2 or 3 in the AAC. Non power conference, there are several in the Missouri Valley, along with Gonzaga,
BYU and usually one more in the WCC.
I don't care who other teams in our conference schedule. The bottom 2/3 of the WCC suck, but it doesn't stop Gonzaga, BYU or St. Mary's from being good.
Texas freaking Southern has a much better ooc schedule than we do. Granted, it is all road games, but I would rather play their ooc schedule than ours, even if it is all road games. Frankly, I would rather watch us play a top 100 team on TV than pay money to see us whip Nicholls live.
Again do not name teams that do not play football or are in FCS football. So you named BYU but you want to say other WCC or AAC.
Playing all of our non conference games on the road is just plain stupid. The wear and tear on our players bodies alone will do nothing to get us in the tournament. Also players would not stay eligible academically missing that much class.
My point which you totally ignore is that you said it is easy, if it is so ____ing easy why don't other Sux Belt teams do it? Had a great conversation with GSU SID that said teams do not want to play them at home and most will not play them away.
Thanks for showing me just BYU.
Scheduling has been a problem since Jessie Evans was here. Right now our issues are more pressing. We have to figure out a way to not have a terrible half or have a guy make a shot at crunch time. One basket when we were trying to hold on to the lead Monday night would likely have won the game. We may go to more road games whenever the next coach shows up but the current regime will try to keep a balance of home and away due to the academic reasons Mel sighted. There may be more relief coming anyway. NCAA selection committee has announced they will not rely on the RPI so much next year as it is too heavily weighted towards schedule. Instead they will use a variety of program ranking tools. One of those is the Sagarin rankings which takes margin of victory into account. I think there are five other tools that will be used. RPI will still be one of the tools but it won't be used as heavily as it is now. New system won't be in play for the 2017 selections but it will be in 2018.
I don't know what we can or cannot afford. However the decision to retain this staff for 2017-2018 was effectively made after last season when they went so heavily to the transfer route in recruiting. They would not have done that had there been pressure to win big in 2016-2017. I don't know how that will turn out but I do know no change is coming after this season.
Didn't say there was going to be but too many time people think with small minds when it comes to looking at what you can "afford" the cost of something is rarely as black and white as the buyout amount. We rely on support dollars more than anyone...we always keep people way too long and are the last university that can "afford" to do that without the budget being based on student fees. When you mainly depend on money from customers pockets, apathy is the last thing you can "afford"
Lee's scheduling wasnt that bad...brought in Tennessee, Nevada, Charlotte, Oral Roberts, Rice, Southern Illinois, Cal State Fullerton, UAB, Southern Miss, Tulane, Lamar, etc. Plus road games at #2 Kansas, #12 NC State, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Tennessee (3), LSU (3), Nevada, Oral Roberts, Southern Illinois, Alabama, UAB, Central Florida, Charlotte, Fullerton, UTEP.
Not to mention, this was when Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee and North Texas were in the Belt so add those to the list.
Marlin's attempt to schedule quality competition cant even sniff that. Hes satisfied with his 20 awful wins and a pay-to-play participation trophy tournament at the end of the year....oh, and Farmer giving him unearned extensions.
You're last sentence is not true. We all may not like it, but UL was contractually obligated to extend his contract. He deferred the extension to help the university (which helped him as well).
It's arguable His contract was bad, but he earned an extension (according to the contract).
I believe Marlin had a built in contract extension / raise benchmark for winning the division in his original contract. Marlin's team won a share of the division his first season. It's my recollection he allowed the university to delay his pay raise so that the Athletic department could use that money to retain Coach HUD. Now the it's the second contract extension, which runs thru 2020, that should bother most folks. I don't think many supporters or non supporters think that extension and raise was warranted.
I did not realize contract went through 2020. Still, that would mean only a two year buyout after next year. A poor season then and the new AD may consider moving on. Of course it depends how you define the season being "poor". A barely winning season won't satisfy most of the people here but I don't know what the administration will think about that. It will definitely be below expectations with the talent coming in. As far as this year goes, it was expected to be a rebuilding year so results are not a total surprise. Some of us did became overly optimistic with the non conference success against competition weaker than what our league has this year.
Football will also play a factor. If we are buying out HUD's contract next year it would be unlikely we would also buy out Marlin. Like it or not I think Marlin is here for a couple of years.
My initial encouragement wasn't based only on the victories against weaker opponents, but being competitive with Georgia and Minnesota. Plus Pepperdine and JMU continued downward spiral showed how few decent victories Marlin had.
Right now with season tickets solid, and likely again next year Marlin in well on the way to a mediocre decade.
No, I Just wanted to put it out there to get the conversation started. Once I realized just about everyone on RP had a loose lipped informant within the athletic department, I knew I had to up my game with regards to breaking rumors. Late last week I hastily brokered an alliance with a few other informed people on this site. This allows us to have the most up to date rumors emanating from Reinhardt Drive. I'm not going to lie, it has been quite an undertaking. Our main focus will be breaking the rumors first. Facts will be adjusted as we find out what is going on. Anyone questioning the validity of our story will be met with a profanity laced rebuke. In the unlikely event that some good news is revealed, we will let Boomer break the story.
With Farmer put out to pasture we will first set our sights on generating HUD rumors/news. Once we take him down we will move on to Marlin. After that it will be either the soccer or volleyball coach. By then we will probably hate the new AD so we can start the process all over.
Congratulations! And welcome aboard. You're seriously going to enjoy being right... like your newly allianced RP colleagues. As you'll come to see, it certainly isn't satisfying to point out that your own kingdom has flaws... but you will be satisfied that the dog catcher and the street sweeper are being held accountable. But can take comfort in your predictions (rumors) having been accurate... well after the "kingdom has flaws" deniers are silenced and the facts surface to prove it.
Welcome aboard.
Thanks, its been quite a journey. I never want to have that empty feeling inside like the day Scott Farmer was reassigned. Sure, I had made a disparaging remark about him from time to time. I even called him Farmer Brown once. But I knew I had nothing to do with his firing. Seeing the euphoria in RP'ers knowing they had done their part in getting him canned was cathartic. I knew I wanted to be a part of someone at UL getting fired, but how? I think I have now taken the necessary steps to being part of this lovable lynch mob. And I will not lie, being right all the time has a nice ring to it!
BTW, this may be the worst thread hijack ever....sorry!!
It's sad really..
No one on here... including you... had anything to do with Scott being "fired". He wasn't fired. He was reassigned. People that get fired from a company, are no longer with that company. Whether or not you participated in calling Scott Farmer names or not... is your cross to bear. I actually disagree that people viewed "getting him canned" as a euphoric event. It was the hope of getting someone that would be more assertive and aggressive toward the building of Cajuns athletics that was "euphoric". Now... if Dr. Maggard... to you... is just replacing one bar of soap for another... then I can buy into your philosophy. But I strongly think otherwise.
The world we live in... when it's done correctly... should look to intelligently "reassign people". You may not agree... and I can deal with that. But if you choose to debate me on that... I'll destroy you (debate-wise) and walk away better for the challenge. You come across on here as a very intelligent person. Being that the case... I hope you choose to risk your convictions and expose them to a vast array of opposing views... all day and all night... for 1000 days and nights... with the intent of listening, learning and recalibrating... as opposed to gathering with like-minded people... and blathering endlessly in blissful ignorance. I've done the former all of my life... not to strike my blade against a blunt edge to entertain myself.. but to sharpen that edge each and every single strike. It takes extreme skill to strike a blade at the perfect angle... every single time. And it takes massive observation of 10,000 strikes to know exactly what the stone provides the blade.
I apologize if I'm misreading you. But this accusation of "lynch mobs" is pure silliness. Every single AD and coach that gets "reassigned" provides opportunity for another. And I find almost none of the "reassigned" having not earned the reassignment. Debate me if you choose. But know this... my edge is very very sharp Mr. Stone.
I think Metry was being facetious when he insinuated posts placed here got Scott Farmer fired or "reassigned". I have spoken to him and we both agree that the posts here had little to do with the decision. I believe the recommendation by Mike Alden to consider the reassignment was the key factor in the change.
Mike, let's keep it real. You defend metry on most things.. regardless of "perception", the baseball stadium debacle and its revelations contributed (if not drove home) the "reassignment" of Scott Farmer. Is RP solely to blame (or credit)? I don't think so. But without the things said here, the media catching wind, the constant public pressure and the several fans that tracked all the FOIA requests (also born here), we might still be having Farmer CB Friday's and TJoe standing with his palms raised and shoulders shrugged.
I think MAT proved my point beautifully. This site did not get Farmer reassigned. Farmer got Farmer reassigned. If this site did not exist the exact same outcome would have occurred. The pressure on Farmer was applied by his boss and large/influential donors.
