I don't have that, here is what I do have.
Turbo stat:
Of their 129 rushes 71 came on first down, where they averaged 5.25 yards per carry.
They have only rushed 12 times when they have less than 3 yards to go on 3rd down. However on those attempts they averaged 4.67 yards per carry.
My Five Keys to Beating Troy (WITH ZERO STATISTICAL RESEARCH!!!!!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!)
1. Give Robinson ZERO time. He's a very accurate QB who will blast you given the chance. Put him under some pressure and force him to make mistakes.
2. Take more shots offensively. I feel as if we get conservative at times and if we would take deeper shots, more often, it will open up the run game and the short passing game
3. O-Line keep protecting Blaine and opening holes. O-line is doing a great job protecting Blaine thus far this season IMO. Opening holes on runs is getting better but still has room to improve. ps. Blaine needs to make quicker decisions in the pocket as he is leaving himself wide open for blind hits
4. Protect the ball. Nothing loses momentum faster than a fumble. The end.
5. Make the play. Nothing frustrates me more than a broken tackle in the backfield due to arm tackling. Wrap him up and take his ___ down.
My Five Keys to beating Troy are:
Play hard on Defense
Play hard on Offense
Play hard on Kick offs/receiving kicks
Play hard on Punts/punt returns
And last but not least just play frigging hard with live and energy for four quarters of football.
Oh yea, I left one out, Number six is we have to do is play hard, hit them first and hit them hard.
This is funny stuff. The only key to beating Troy is to end up with more points when time expires... you bunch of numbnuts. Oh... and Waldo... I did my research and have found this to be true 100% of the time. I also stated it against every opponent as my single "key to winning"... and in my post game analysis found that I was accurate each and every time. The key to winning is to have more points at the end of the game. Period. <---- an overused but extremely appropriate term in this case.
Seriously, this is almost like the quibbling I did with Zephyr a while back. I feel like our spread needs to open up the run by first succeeding with the pass. He has leaned more toward the inverse. I think we both agreed that you pretty much operate on what the defense "shows" and/or "gives you"... and go from there. It's just a bunch of babble squabble.
I actually see nothing wrong with Jay's "shut down Troy's rushing attack" from a UL historical perspective... and I see Waldo's point that Troy has aired it out successfully a good bit lately. I think Jay pointed out that despite in year's past, when Troy had a good passing game, they charged at us with their rushing attack... and succeeded... so this may very well make them attempt it again this year. Remember... Troy is not that intelligent. There's some chromosome issues in that neck of the Alabama woods.
Wow we are 4-1 and we have bickering on Ragin Pagin. Guys take a deep breath and enjoy the ride remember we are building towards success, we have not had much in the past. As for as DeadAirBirdsOfParadise sounds like you need a few more cold pops from the krewdechew tent. Don't be so sensitive.
Without deep research here's my $0.02.
1. Stop the run on first down and the pass there after. According to Turbine's post, Troy sets themselves up well for the pass by gaining 5-6 yards on first down, this leads to short 2nd and 3rd situations which clearly opens up the passing game.
2. Turnovers, Turnovers, Turnovers. Which should go without saying. Its kind of like the whole score more points than them.
3. Limit bad penalties. Def pass interference is ok if the guy has you beat and its either 15 yards or 6 pts, but personal fouls after the play is over need to be limited. I get it were aggressive and that comes with the territory but we need to limit the "dumb" penalties.
4. Wrs keep making the grabs. I think Green has a good chance of having a big game if our Wr's keep making plays causing Troy's defense to watching the outside threats.
5. Special teams. Field position has been our greatest ally in our "big" wins. "Sarge" Surge needs to keep making big returns, and "Big" Baer pins them deep.
I'm going the route of Poland on my first key. I think Jay and Waldo are both right in their breakdowns. I can say that it is great that the Cajuns are in the position they are in and this is a very winnable game.
