NO More remedial classes at four yr schools, if one needs remedials go to cc.
The goal would be to marshal limited resources to a limited number of research universities. then to make those research universities work together. Also, to have the regional universities function as economic engines for their respective areas and not encroach on the broader mission of the research schools.
I applaude your stepping up and not going down the road of degredation any more. We could do that all day long if we wanted. But by the words you've just written, you admit that the way the entire Louisiana higher education system is structured, doesn't work very well. And by reading what you wrote, i also infer that you don't agree with any of this flagship nonsense, mostly because lsu honks generally like to include that in their arguments.
You seem to believe that most of these schools, in order to succeed, should be treated as equals in all regards, and allowed to run themselves with supervision from above, not with instructions from above. I too agree with that. As it is now, the state limits what happens at all schools except for lsu, to promote only one school. That is the only way i can explain there being higher admissions and tuition at lsu, while all others' are relatively equal.
of all the college students in Louisiana, LSU might be the most populated (about 25k to UL's ~18k) but they do not educate a majority of the state's students. therefore i think it is immature and irresponsible for the state to cater so much to one school, without providing enough support to grow its other schools, and enable the students that graduate from those schools, the same prestige that is percieved in Baton Rouge.
I would concur that some of those schools be shut down or altered. Perhaps instead of there being a UL system and a LSU system, there should be more of a University system, and a college system, or a research system and non-research like you suggested. But, not sure if i agree that separate UL and LSU systems stay in tact.
But i still can't understand why you criticize those who choose to assocaite themselves with a school other than lsu, and who call them fans of another school, and have pride in another school, when you have admitted that you are quite aware that many of the issues with UL and with other LA schools are a result of lawmakers in BR. It doesn't make sense to me. If UL fans want to "make up" stories, then so be it. If UL fans want to make up Pentathlam rankings the so be it. Its all about perception and spin. WE percieve things a certain way, and spin things a certain way, and that's our business. I can't count how many times I've spoken to, or heard on the radio, LSU fans talking about the teams they beaten and lost to. In many lsu fan's eyes, tiger teams always beat awesome opponents, and never lose to bad ones. Fans of every school do this. do you go to lsu message boards and constantly set thsoe guys straight? I'm amazed as to why guys like you, and like the clowns on that Jim jones board stick your nose in it, but for what reason? what do you get out of this?

No you're right. They bought their achievements. LSU didn't get to where it is by itself. In fact, it took white collar criminals like Huey Long and others to get where it is. Congratulations on all their accomplishments, however tainted they are. LSU fans seem to forget that the school came to fame via "far less than noble" means. Glad to see you can be proud of that history.

Ok. I'd take losing by two or 3 pts to the number 4 ranked team over getting my butt whipped by UAB anyday. I know that being a LSU fan means that you don't know what a moral victory is, or morals in general for that matter. But it was a moral victory. When a "lowly sunbelt school" hangs with that good of a team and their coach is still giving us props at the final four press conference, we take a lot of pride in that.

As a Gator alum, I don't go on LSU boards and explain the obvious, that UF has a lot more funding and has had better leadership over the past few decades, and therefore has a much nicer campus, better academics, more well regarded research and other accomplishments, and higher regarded incoming students. So why do you bring up the obvious on the Cajuns board? Yes, LSU is given the very large % share of higher education funding in Louisiana. Therefore, LSU spends more money for things than does UL and has so for many many years. Therefore LSU has better looking buildings than UL and big time athletics. UL fans, including myself, keep supporting the Cajuns anyways and we actually get excited about accomplishments that occur, notwithstanding the funding problems. You seem to have a problem with that....
Thanks to the support of the UF university system, UCF, FSU, USF all have better academic facilities than LSU as well. IMHO, if the LSU system had supported the entire Louisiana state university system over the years and worked together for common goals of actually providing a great education opportunity for all Louisiana high school grads, then LSU might be as good of a school as the top 4 or 5 schools in Florida, as well as other states.

How many decades has ULL had a basketball program? 50-06 yrs. What has it done in that amount of time? appeared in the sweet sixteen in the 70s and never really done anything else.
LSU has a national championship in b-ball, 5 Final Fourt appearance, numersous Elite 8 and Sweet 16s. Not to mention several lottery picks.
ULL has no choice but to hold on to "well the coach of team in a tournment we lost to three yrs ago or is it four yrs ago, said that we played hard." YOu are a loser. You have a loser mentaility. What is a moral victory? a loss. What is a program that has never won anything of note in any sport? a program of losers.
In 15 yrs, you be on some bd like this claiming that you led LSU in the pethalem ranking while SI is labeling you one of the poorest have not programs in the country again.

GOD you are brilliant. I got into Tulane, which is a better school than UF. Now what does that have to do with UL v LSU. My friend has a degree from Duke, a much better school than FL. What does that have to do with LSU v UL. The argument was about ULL fans and their lies about LSU, Fl has nothing to do with this.
FL fans don't lie about the program . OH, I have been to the FL campus twice, LSU's is a lot prettier.
