Having watched toilets flush in both hemispheres, I can verify the validity of the Coriolis Effect.

Actually toilets are too small to be affected by Coriolis forces, but large [low pressure] storms rotate counter-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.

In Australia, the rotation was clockwise, in the toliet.

Similarities: It rained a lot the week before Lili.

With the ground already soft, it didn't take a lot to knock everything over in Abbeville

Maybe it has something to do with more publicly accessible meteorological info from NOAA, etc. Everyone has more access to higher-level info than in year's past.

Winds will be nowhere near what Lili was. Last I saw this may not even hit us as a hurricane at all.
