A few questions from up north
Man I can't wait for football to start. I've got a couple of questions for those who might be able to help me out, so here goes.
1) What's Devin Williams' status and who is Ross Corcoran?
2) Am I correct that out of last years recruiting class, Dwayne Bannister and Paul Eli were the only ones who were unable to join the team?
3) Can some one give me the lowdown on Travis Smothers and any other late signees or late juco signees I may have missed?
4) How badly are the Cajuns going to beat South Carolina?
5) Any news on the recruiting front? I see the Cajuns are in on several prospects from Texas. Jonathan Pendleton from Dallas Skyline (same school as Travis Ferguson) is one that they seem to have a pretty good shot at.
6) Any one have an updated roster, or happen to know what the new recruits jersey #'s are going to be?
7) Lastly, Any one going to Minneapolis?! That's the closest I think the Cajuns will ever be to me so I'm hoping to make it up there for that game. If I do, I want to make sure I'm not the only one sporting some Cajun clothing!
If you can help me out with some of these questions it would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Cajun backs battle for time

LOUISIANA La. — The Cajun Countdown is under way for Louisiana's 2003 football season opener at South Carolina.
Coach Rickey Bustle's squad, which had Monday off in order to begin the fall semester of classes, resumes practice today and stages the final full scale scrimmage of the preseason on Wednesday.
After that, the Cajuns' attention will turn to the Gamecocks and the Aug. 30 road game that begins the 12-game campaign.
Assistant coach Brian Jenkins will spend that time mulling his choices at running back and fullback, but he's not likely to reveal any choices soon.
"I'm pleased with all of them,” said Jenkins, who also oversees the Ragin' Cajun special teams. “They're all working hard and competing. They've yet to be told who will be the guy.”
That might not settle the issue, anyway, since Jenkins knows it will take more than one back to create a Cajun running attack this autumn.

“I’ve always been a two-to-three guy type of guy as a coach,” Jenkins said. “It’s the same situation at fullback.
“When you look at the season ahead, we’re going to need more than one to help us win.”
Competition has been fierce at running back, with veterans Chester Johnson and Dwight Lindon pushed by diminutive redshirt freshman Josh Harrison and walk-on Travis Smothers for snaps.
If one would separate from the rest, there is a job for the taking. For now, Jenkins is evaluating each candidate.
“They’re recognizing the offense and executing at a lot higher level, so that’s pleasing,” Jenkins said. “Right now, they’re working as a group and trying to be productive.”
At fullback, the leader is senior Wayne Stein. He got just eight carries in the 2002 season, spending more time blocking than rushing the ball, but he did slip out of the backfield for 20 receptions netting 116 yards and a touchdown.
In fact, it was Stein who got last Saturday’s scrimmage off to a solid start with a 9-yard screen pass from Jerry Babb.
Stein, who saw action in 22 games the last two seasons, is a leader by example in practice and in games.
Opelousas’ Ross Rix has shown the ability to help at both spots, with fullback his latest home.
Junior college transfer Travis Cones caught one pass Saturday, twisting a knee and sitting out the rest of the action.
As members of the Cajun offensive line get off the injury list and onto the field, life will get better for each of the players contending to carry the ball.
With the opener just 11 days away, the focus is on improving with each drill.
“This week, I want them to continue to be productive,” Jenkins said. “We want to put the offense in a position to move the ball.”
CAJUN CLIPPINGS: Wednesday’s scrimmage is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Cajun Field and is open to the public.

1.Williams status is uncertain at this point, he has appealed to be eligible (I think) this year. Corcoran is a freshman QB from Tampa that was recruited but did not sign with any school (other schools backed off him when it was reported he committed to Colgate). Ross was not offered by us until it became apparent that Bannister was not going to play for us.
2. Joe Scott (JC LB) came in the spring but left Bannister did not graduate HS and Eli is a prop this year.
3. Smothers has looked good at times in practice and I believe will see some playing time this year as we search for the best RB or RB's to help the team. If you have not already read it here is the Advertiser article on Smothers LINK.
4. 24-17 Cajuns Win!
5. Other than the 2 commitments so far, I have heard we are recruiting OL Geoff Berniard from STM and Tyler Benoit RB from Comeaux. Don't know much else at this point.
6. Try this link for updated roster. LINK
7. Can't travel that far but hope you get to make it
Will this game be on PPV?
WIll this game be on the PPV College Football package on Cox Digital?
