What tradition? They play the same crap over and over.

I heard that the band director told the entire band that they were not allowed to use the word Louisiana in any discussion anywhere to anyone. Any truth to this rumor, LOL!!!!

Re: Grading the Game Day Experience
I like to check with the knuckleheads on here during the long TV timeouts, and this week I had no trouble getting a good signal at any time during the game saturday. Last year was much different.

Could not even do that. I just laughed when my wife scanned the code on the jumbotron knowing it was going to be an epic fail.

Re: Grading the Game Day Experience
Look I am not the atheltic director but if I was in charge.
1-Change the Parking situation
2. Create a tailgate area with live bands, food trucks, vendors, face paintings etc., championship square type of thing
3. Have a Bar with tables, a concourse with TV’s in the NEZ. Where people can hang out
4. Have the band play more hip modern music, come up with a fanfare, and work with the director of bands to create a atmosphere of bigger schools, for example have something like USC Trojan Tribute, FSU tomahawk chop, Notre Damn Rakes of Mallow, create a tradition!
5. Have food trucks and restaurants inside Cajun Field.
6 Have a theme at every Cajuns game! oyster Fest. Cajun Fest. Etc.
7. Have a mascot, and preferably something like FSU, Boomer, Sooner etc. have a alligator man come out with a live alligator and parade it around Cajun Field for pregame.
8. Have an actual mascot!

1. How would you change it? It's already the easiest and cheapest anywhere. It's literally FREE right across the street.
2. Not sure if still accurate but that was the plans for where the Cox building currently is once torn down.
3. Would be a major renovation of that area. There's also a giant scoreboard right there. Currently have tables in southwest corner to rent. Not sure how often they are used.
4. The band added Trombone Shorty to their list. Not sure what you want them to play.
5. See Sodexo problem. Local restaurants are currently in Cajun Field concession areas.
6. There are themes each game. Sounds like you're asking for more of a different festival each game.
7 & 8. Many threads already on this one.

So do you have any ideas for a revitalization of our gameday experience or do you think it’s already up to your expectations and those required to grow the fanbase?
-
Re: Grading the Game Day Experience
It's real easy.
We are Cajuns. We are known worldwide for "laissez les bon temps rouler!" Anything that hinders this spirit like long beer lines, student harassment by UP, overpricing, harassment of tailgaters by UP and blaring obscenities on the PA should never happen.
You're welcome.

Re: Grading the Game Day Experience
. . . he's got a point . . . laissez les UP alas . . .

Why are you asking me? The people make the atmosphere what it is, not the University. I bring new people each week to games. My old tailgate crew has started returning to games this season. The only question I asked was about parking and how he would change it. Many of his other ideas are already happening.

Sounds like a lot of low hanging fruit to me....

I asked you to get your opinion. Your takes don’t always match mine, but what good is it to only talk to people with the exact same views as yourself?
The people make the atmosphere. The university creates the environment in which people create the atmosphere. If the people aren’t pleased with the environment, the atmosphere created will not be a pleasant one.

He also got there in the middle of summer. Did not have much time to change things if he so desired

Where did he come from? Does he have any P5 experience that he can lend to our band that will improve student and fan gameday experience?

LSU, Alabama and Ohio St and many other bands all play the same stuff on game day as they did in the 70s and 80s. Maybe even prior in some cases.

Re: Grading the Game Day Experience
Do students have free transportation from campus to Cajun Field on GameDay?
What would it cost to offer Uber or Lyft discount code to off-campus students to get to Cajun Field? Or to anyone who purchases a ticket?
"Sounds like you're asking for more of a different festival each game."
This city puts on a festival every 3 days.. you're telling me that the university couldn't pull off a Rhythms on the River pre-game party for five Saturdays a year? It's a freakin stage, a band, and beer and food vendors. Get freakin Joey's to cater it from across the street
Whatever you're saying the admin is doing to get the existing low hanging fruit, they aren't doing it right.

You do know they (Cajun Field) already have a band playing pre-game for each game?

Every generation should be able to hear the band play one of their songs. It's part of building community. We used to be the best at that.

I’m there for a tailgate and a football game. UL won’t grow attendance with the current stadium that lacks amenities casual fans are looking for. Some people who don’t come to games say it’s because of parking. Parking is the easiest of any stadium I’ve been to. They’ve added the in stadium entertainment (Tyler). They’ve added the ribbon board. They’ve added food options. The stadium reconstruction is coming. Us fans that are there no matter what beating a dead horse with the same complaints then still not being happy when those complaints are addressed isn’t helping. I bring new people almost every game and none of them have ever complained. Probably because I’m not spending all day complaining about what the administration needs to do for them to keep showing up. It’s a never ending cycle with some fans, they wouldn’t be happy is we go 15-0 with packed stadiums every week.

Exactly! Another “great idea” thrown out that is already happening and has been for years.
Now, running the buses from campus to Cajun Field like during school days is a good idea if possible.

I think they did this during Hud's tenure huh? Or was it just shuttles to/from Blackham parking?

GA parking at Cajun Field inside the gates on Saturday was a huge plus. It should remain that way until attendance is consistently in the 20Ks. The admin has also obviously put in work with the students for a crowd like that to turn out.
At the same time, I don’t see the benefit the university receives from the few people who go to the games pretending everything is perfect when it isn’t. Especially when some of the observations are common sense things that can be addressed before the stadium is built.

. . . give us ONE post with those things, then it will be done . . .
. . . VOB and CJR have already done a pretty good job on the positive side . . .

No, I don't know.. its been a minute since I've been to the tailgate area because every one we knew who had one has long since abandoned it.
I'm glad to hear it's there
