I know that we are playing without integral players that we anticipate having to make us a better/compete team, and never really expected more than a modest output from this team (winning wise). However, to play with no heart, passion and hustle is unacceptable. We have a young team who will learn how to win in time...and on that note, see you guys in the Dome Saturday night! 😀 I'll be drinking plenty of Dome Foam as an anxiety elixir! 🍺🍻
Hervey did not play in the games UTA struggled in. Metry mentioned that Bartley did not play well and that seems to be a key. He is right in that he played well at Texas State in that game and we won it. Key stat from last night. At one time we had 14 offensive rebounds and 0 second chance points. That shows hustle and frustration. You have to work hard to get that many offensive rebounds and when you are not rewarded with baskets it is natural to get frustrated which affects the rest of your game. Other than that there is nothing positive to say about last night and I understand the concern considering we have given up over 100 points in two of the last three games. I am starting to come around to the view that the problems in the half court offense may be responsible for some of that. Turnovers against a team like UTA leads to easy buckets while badly missed shots does as well.
Our defense against penetration by the opponents guards is offensive. We always appear to trail our man going to the baskets and when other collapse we leave wide open three point shots or get there late and give up layups. That's what happened against GaST and last night against UTA. On offense, we also don't do a good job getting the ball inside against a zone to either score from there or kick back out for open shots. We seem to spend plenty of the clock dribbling with minimal player movement and having to take tough shots near the end of the shot clock. JMO
Our spacing in the half court game is also poor; and against man defenses, we seemingly have never been taught how to properly utilize perfectly good screens set by our teammates, whether to create space for our own shot or to dump the ball to the screener in a pick and roll situation.
I laugh because I tell that to my wife all the time. I was taught to brush my shoulder against the screener so no one can pass between. We never do that or even close to that, but I do see other teams do it all the time against us. It's a fundamental thing, which was something I understood coach Marlin stressed, but I see a number of things we do that go against fundamentals that I was taught.
So proud of the UTA student section cheering the last minute of the game....WE ARE ARLINGTON...they are proud of what they are and unlike usl fans not trying to be something they will never be...stop wearing louisiana on your uniforms and embarrassing the good people of this state....put your own personal name on the front and embarrass yourself as if you aren't already doing that....
