I don't think 1 Billion is correct. 1 Billion is 1000 million. They could rebuild the entire campus for that.

So you were only puffing by 500 million Boomer. You fit right in there with Farmer, Blanco, T-Jo and the Fossil, 'if the facts don't support you simply change the perception of what is a fact'.
----Whoa man----I was bragging on the construction efforts of this university and I thought I saw or heard that the numbers were one Billion----That Is why I asked----when I was told I was way off I asked would it be half of that----And No sir I promptly admitted I was off and that was the reason for suggesting another parameter----What the hell gives with this Farmer, Blanco, T-Joe, D Ray------I don't know who you are but I assure you that you are way off base with your thoughts on my associations with these people---had many arguments with them through out the years with huge ideological differences ----Ask them!!!! Ask my wife!!!! And I still would like to put an adding machine to my miscalculation to see just what the real figures are----It is a hell of a lot of finished, present, and future work that will be done!!!
Boomer all I see is your covering the back of T-Jo, and often over estimating values of certain projects. Seems like you are an apologist for UL even when the facts say they are F(*KING UP.
Three or more major F-UPS
1: Baseball FUP. Letting Robe be humiliated.
2: NOT being ready for conference shuffle, claiming to have a pinky promise, not having a master plan, not manning up.
3: NOLA Bowl vs looking at options.
4: ---------------- no not hyphens to damned many F-UPS and never taking responsibility, always blaming stupid, fans believing something because U-LL never is transparent. So it is our fault for being confused.
#1----Totally agree with you and never once have i defended that screw up and in fact bragged to my buddies about our great new bball stadium-----#2--I warned for years about our upcoming demise over conference expansion and was told by T-joe and many on this board, and in fact ridiculed, about Tech getting in ahead of us---#3-I thought the fact of going anywhere else but NO was an absolute asinine consideration. We listened to those SOBs that screwed us some years back out of their bowl but were kind and told them we could not wait for a late offer and get LTURed---#4--I haven't seen what you are referring to about the stupid fans although I thought I had read all available info---but again nobody could have been more disappointed than me---I just choose to find out the reasons and make my judgements later!!! Again I don't know who you are but you sure seem ____ed and angry!!! On the projects I will state that I am happy as hell over what has happened to our school--just trying to remember and project----Cleaned the whole campus up, tore down and rebuilt the entire front of campus, St Mary St, Bikeway, Built parking garages, new parking garages, trade for hopefully the Lourdes property, Fletcher Hall, Boys Dorms in the back, Destroying of the 2 old buildings, Burke Hall, the UNION, IPF, New turf in stadium, new turf in the IPF, Cajun dome A/V work, New Cajun Dome remodeling ($15K), Phase I, PhaseII, PHaseIII----The remaining master plan to the Campus with bike storage areas, the future building of a UL area around the stadium parking lot with stores and living areas---I am sure that there are more but my over estimates are what they are --a mistake---but WTF is up with all the overestimating crap for a cover up---Don't know who you are but again you are way off in your assessments of my positions on things that you have posted about me!!!
Only two times in history has construction been more active at UL.
You would have to go back to the 40's or when UL was established in 1898 to top now.
The late 60's early 70's come in 4th.
Plus those other years only top now if you do percentage of buildings involved.
Could put one hell of a parking garage there though! Lets just keep it a park!
They started placing auger cast piles this past week. This is a photo of the rig set up to do a battered (or tilted) pile. Battered piles are used to resist lateral loads. It looks like a ten degree batter.

This is a photo of a trench they excavated to run electric conduit. This is typical when excavating in a developed area. There are three phone cables and the rectangular shape in the middle of the photo is concrete that encases electric or telephone cables. They encase electric cables in concrete dyed red. This is used as a warning to anybody excavation in the future to let them know there are electric cables in the concrete. It protects the cables and it prevents any future excavators from getting killed.

They have finished installing the auger cast piles and are well on their way with the foundation. Pretty soon we will be seeing precast concrete sections like the ones that were used for Olivier Parking garage. It will be easier to see progress once this gets started as up until now everything has been underground.
This is the foundation work as seen from the sidewalk between Oliver Hall and Rougeau Hall

Getting ready for some heavy lifting. This crane will be used to lift and position modular precast and pretensioned concrete components.

Elevator pit on the north west corner. Fletcher Hall is to the rear.

Steel frame for some class rooms and engineering labs (I think). This is along the Lewis street end of the building.

Foundation just about ready to accept precast concrete modules.

A conceptual image of what the parking garage will look like. This is what they project it to look like from McNaspy field.

The first few precast modular sections of the parking garage showed up on the site yesterday. I'm thinking they will start to place them today (4/8/14). Lets see how long it takes for them to complete the erection of the precast modular sections.
Helmut: do you know if there are also plans to start building soon the parking garage on the former charity hospital site (catty-corner from Olde Tyme Grocery)? I wonder what other parts of the Master Plan, if any, are also going to be started anytime soon? (Like the covered walkway between the library and Billeaud Hall.) Where we would find that info? Thanks for all your great posts!!
I'm no HelmutVII, but I don't think there's any concrete construction plans aside from what we're already doing.
I am confused as to where the access points for the garage will be located: if you look at the rendering above, it seems as if it will be in the rear of the garage. I also just drove by the site and cannot see any drive-way access points from the front (Lewis St) , or on the sides ( between either Rogeau or Fletcher Halls). Maybe they'll come later???? But if it is to be in the rear, would you enter from Girard Park drive? And if this is the case, I don't know how that would work once the additions to Oliver Hall or done. If anyone has any info on this please share....thanks!
I don't have a clue as to what the answer is. However, I would be shocked to learn that an entrance to this parking garage was not included in the design of the project! Come on now, do those of us that frequent these message boards really think we must be made aware of every single detail of every single project that our University constructs? From the construction we have seen taking place at UL over the last few years, I think it is fairly obvious that someone has these things under control (other than maybe the construction of the softball stadium).
Now who in the world ever posited that someone with UL has not planned this? Surely I did not. And I also realized that it was a long shot that someone here would have the answer, but thought I would give it a try (especially since Helmut is so knowledgeable about the whole process).
I've never understood why people like you would take the time to post offensive responses to people who are just trying to use the forum for what it is intended: sharing information.
If you (click the image to) go to the full size image, you can see what looks like an entrance on the side of the building that's to the right side of this rendering. You can also make out what looks like a paved road running parallel to that facing of the building (perpendicular to the entrance). If so, then it seems that the opposite side, which I believe would front Lewis, might have an opposing entrance/exit. Just my thoughts...Quote:

Well, the view we are looking at in the rendering is from McNaspy, so that Fletcher would be to the left, Rogeau to the right, and Lewis behind. So the road we see here would almost have to originate from Girard Park Dr. And I checked today: there aren't any entrances on Lewis ( because of the classrooms), and not any on the Fletcher or Rogeau sides either.
