Re: Hudspeth deals with rumors
OXFORD — Archie Manning denied today that interviews would take place this weekend in New Orleans.
Manning, co-chair of the search committee to replace Houston Nutt as Ole Miss’ football coach, wrote “It’s not true” in a text message to Clarion-Ledger columnist Rick Cleveland.
RebelGrove.com initially reported that the interviews could take place Sunday and Monday in New Orleans, and the candidates included Mark Hudspeth, Larry Fedora, Hugh Freeze and Kirby Smart.
There has not been a confirmation or denial of any candidates by the search committee. That’s not say that those four are not candidates, just that (as expected) there is no confirmation of that.
Re: Hudspeth deals with rumors
I lived in Hattiesburg for two years & I can tellyou first hand that there are almost as many LSU fans in Hattiesburg as there are USM fans. They also have a three way split with State & Ole Miss for fans depending on who is playing for more sets which way those fans gates are swinging. USM is absolutely topped out fan following wise & they definitley don't want to get into a bidding war with UL because UL could easily embarrass them with the difference in money here Vs. Hattiesburg. The question is will UL & the fat wallets in this community step up in a bidding war & let those stump jumpers know they don't have what it takes to steal our guy & therefore they don't have what it takes to steal our future football players.
Re: Hudspeth deals with rumors
What is scary is that if Hud gets interviewed he will WOW them like he still does us, but we will see.

This is a very very good point. How do we stop this from happening? The answer is simple. We simply fulfill all of the HUD's requests, thereby making it much harder for him to be as inspired & therefore as inspiring as he has been here so far (to other schools that is). If I remember correctly, the HUD is wanting at least 30k tickets sold through the UL ticket office. Why is that? Because he KNOWS that a good bit of that money will be distributed to him & his staff in the near future. We have to take care of this guy as well as his staff. It is imperitive that WE the PEOPLE of this town flood the UL ticket office with requests. the HUD challenged every ticket holder to double their ticket buying for this season. Now he is challenging us to buy 5 tickets for every season ticket. Everyone should be buying at least five season tickets & inviting friends & family to this game.
The New Orleans Bowl is the first bowl game played this year. This means that UL can win this game & parly it into an incredible recruiting advantage. The class of athelete we can get will be astonishing. You put another even better recruiting class with this class & we will be well on our way to having a conference dominating football program. We need to but tickets people. We are way too busy complimenting ourselves on beating the old NO bowl attendance record & not nearly busy about the business of shattering that record & setting a new measuring stick for this conference that will make the whole country sit up & take notice of this program. This is OUR TIME. This is OUR OPPORTUNITY. We must take advantage of it & let people know WHO WE ARE. This is not the end of the road. This school is only getting out of the gate good.

Good post!
Re: Hudspeth deals with rumors
I am not a fan of getting into a bidding war with USM. If Hud does not see the potential here now, he will not see that potential when the next job offer comes along, so a bidding war is futile. If Fedora does not get the Old Miss job, it is a non-issue anyway. We cannot compete against SEC schools like Old Miss; if they want him, he is gone. (that is reality)
Here is what I think needs to happen: Try and raise our coach’s pay (whoever it is) to around 650K and the assistants accordingly. This will put us in line with "middle" mid-majors like La Tech and some of the C-USA schools. Commit to do the stadium improvements in a 2-4 year plan. Hud is a good motivator but so far he has built a team, not a program. We need a program builder and if he is not willing to be that person, then I think we will allow his departure. I do expect the results this team has produced this year will allow UL to find a better coach for the future. Right now if this job were advertised, I expect we would be astounded at the applicant we would get; especially with a salary in the range of 650K.
Coaches come and go but fans and alumni are here to stay, at least the non-fair weather variety. I think that whoever the coach next season is will do a good job and hopefully move us closer to having an excellent program so we will not be a one hit wonder. Hud is not the only person qualified and able to do that. Hopefully he returns, but if not, I am confident that our AD will find the right person to move forward.
BTW, Geaux Cajuns, beat Arizona today!
Re: Hudspeth deals with rumors
If an SEC teams comes calling...there is nothing we can offer him to stay. Not realizing this is delusional.
Re: Hudspeth deals with rumors
I just saw a tweet that HUD was interviewing at Ole Miss. What happened to..."I'm here to build a program"?

When the SEC calls you listen. Don't be silly.
