Im sorry but 2 Strength Coaches for 400 student athletes will wear on anyone. Many schools have 1 trainer/GA per every 2 athletes, but many times Rob was working alone with 20-30 athletes at a time. This not only hurts the coach, but it also hurts the program because the athletes can not get the individual attention that they should be getting. Programs had to be drawn up on a group basis instead of on an individual are position basis.
I believe that Rod did an excellent job based on what he was given. Sometimes matching money alone is not enough, and in this case I think that he is going to a place that may allow him to advance further in his professional career as well as improve his family life.
I cannot, nor will I ever, hold something against a man simply because he is trying to better himself!
I was just trying to stave off the obvious, "that guy".... People who read the first paragraph and not the whole article, then jump on the administration for being half s.sed and not giving an effort to keep good people...
Best of luck Rob.

I did read the first paragraph and the whole article. I am speaking of Rob as a personal friend and have seen first hand the problems that have occurred with the admin in regards to the Strength and conditioning program. Rob Phillips is a good man and i take offense to people attacking him when they have no knowledge of the things that lead to his decision. I hope that the Cajuns make a strong hire, and improve the program that much more, and hopefully the will be willing to put a little more money into providing the next man more staff/GA's so that we can get more out of every minute this kids are in the weight room
Re: Rob Phillips Takes Tulane Position
This is a BIG LOSS, Coach Phillips was a great man but regardless I wish him and his family the best of luck.

My suggestion for a replacement is above. Former Cajun, NFL experience as a S&C coach, CFL experience as a player and one heluva guy, if any of you know Harold, you won't meet a nicer guy.
I doubt he would come, but it would be sweet!!!!!

I love guys like this who are high character and high work ethic guys. To walk on and then be voted as a captain by your teammates because of your leadership tells just about everything you need to know about him. It would be nice and I wouldn't think that he would turn that away very easily if offered to him.

And maybe he would like to stay here and provide some much needed continuity...
We also lost one heck of an assistant to Tennessee if memory serves me correctly, so we seem to be able to locate talent...

I don't know about continuity but we need more resources, that is for sure. Philips showed that he was able to accomplish a lot even with limited resources but sooner or later, they will all leave for larger schools where they can have more of an impact on individual athletes rather than be responsible for so many where it is impossible to manage progression.

Your right drumroll. We should try to get Medgar to come back closer to home. He's a real sharp guy and loves the area.

We were next door neighbors in McCullogh dorm our freshman year. Class guy, he went to St Aug and I went to Brother Martin, so we had a lot to chat about. He told me that he was going to walk on and make the team, and he did, 4 years later he walked out of U(s)L with degree in hand and a tryout with the NY Giants, not to mention the respect of every single, player coach and fan that watched him play.
I would love for him to come back to UL and take over. Hopefully someone at the university still stays in contact with him and can at least throw an offer out there.
Re: Rob Phillips Takes Tulane Position
After the great naming of the recruiting area for Mr. Fournet today, I went to the IPA---All the lil bballers were at Robes camp and the Fballers were doing their off season workouts----A player came up and mentioned that the guy was gone but that the guy putting them through the drills was damn good---As an ole dude ---I was impressed---Wait till the new Tulane coach pays the 20K per year for the private schools in NO!!!!!
