Re: SBc G1 Final: Louisiana 2, App State 1
Season continues to be weird. That's an incredible job to come back and win that. And shows that progress they've made over the last few weeks. Down the last out, no one on and a team with no power to gets 4 straight to reach including 2 doubles (the first 8 hits were all singles.)
Softball fans know the changes that had to be made this year in the offense to compensate for the loss of power. Just to do a comparison to the offenses that UL fans are used too I just looked at last year's team stats vs. this year.
*Note the 2024 stats are through the whole season. 2025 is up to May 8th.
370 runs scored in 24' vs. 228 in 25'.
537 hits in 24' vs. 398 in 25'.
27% of the hits went for extra bases in 24'. Only 17% in 25'.
Hope they keep this thing going this season, but I'm sure there are a few out there that miss the typical Cajuns offenses. Hope we get some bats in that can get us back to that. Certainly, makes it fun to watch.

Wow. Forgot the game was early today. Gotta admit, when I saw the abbreviated title on the N2U tab and only saw 2 runs for the Cajuns, I expected to see a loss on the next page.
Happy to see I was wrong! Pitching has really stepped up lately.
Geaux Cajuns!

We have 3 freshmen who have not played this year due to injury who should help with that. [Lily Knox, Chayne Allen and Raenna Liscano], plus I am certain that we will try to pick up a proven power hitter or 2 from the portal. All three of those freshmen were rated as Top 75 national recruits by Extra Innings Softball, as was Emily Smith.

Nice. I knew we had pitchers on the shelf. Didn’t know about the freshman. Any power would be welcome.

In fairness, Liscano is not a power hitter, but she is still a high quality infielder.

Agree this season has been weird, but also think the preseason expectations were just too high and then injuries made it all that much tougher.
I am very encouraged about the pitching as it appears Coach Shelby is really good, they have gotten better all season. On the hitting side, anyone know what the strategy is for almost every hitter showing bunt and then pulling back and potentially swinging away? We did it some in baseball, as a way to move infielders and create more holes. Is it a Coach Aly or Coach Shelley belief? I am hoping it is a tactical thing this season to potentially help our lackluster offense, but it really makes no sense when I see Smith and Credeur do it.

Coach Ali and Sam Roe took a timeout and had an exchange before the Sam's walk off. Whatever was said by Coach Ali worked!!!!!!!! We have a great coach!

Timing mechanism for the hitters. I personally hate it.

"That is a big situation to be in," Roe said. "I watched the first one and my heart was racing. I think coach Aly could tell and she called time and said, ‘Sam, you got this,’ and I was like, ‘You know what, yeah I do.’ I was so hyped going into that at-bat."
