What exactly did they see from Ben in camp? How much of a camp did he have to see exactly how he was leaps and bounds better than zeon? Ben is gone next year. Zeon is your future. This may hurt some feelings, and it's not personal, but NO ONE is coming to pluck Ben or Chandler from us. No one! But you want to sit the guy that you KNOW other teams will want. Unless Ben is far and away better than Zeon, then you run your future out there and let him learn. Ben wont be here next year. We are a young team. I want this kind of talent to learn THIS year! But there's nothing that's gonna convince me that Ben is that far ahead of Zeon. It's painfully obvious who is the more talented QB. It's not even close.
I think Ben is a leader and a quality QB. I think the upside of ZC is huge. But he still has a lot of growing to do. This is a great situation to have if Ben and Zeon and even chandler are healthy.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you keep the guy on the bench that you know other people will want. If you think you can win with Ben then why play ZC and have someone come get him in offseason. I don’t think that’s the whole reason but it definitely played a part.
I wonder if Coach Desormeaux can teach Zeon the art of the fake handoff?
I’ve never seen anyone do it better.
I agree with most of what you posted, but starting someone just because they will probably be your future starter just doesn’t make sense to me. You start the player that gives you the best opportunity to win this game and this season.
Now, does that mean ZC wasn’t the better option, no it doesn’t. I’m just stating how I don’t believe in that strategy at all.
Also, there is one thing I am certain about. Coach Des wants to win. He is not going to start the 22 players he feels gives him the best shot to do that.
I agree. We are playing for now, not the future. However, after watching the UAB game, it creates the argument as to why not start ZC. I think the next week or 2 will be telling how much he's ready to be the man on a week in and week out basis. All I know is he turned that game on its head after he got his jitters out.
