And, you do need to give the back up QB playing time, especially if Davis gets hurt again. Now, he has no game experience yet. Very perplexing how this was handled.
This is where a head coach with his experience has to make difficult decisions. If he was throwing the ball poorly (which he was at the time) and turning over the ball (which he was), he was hurting the team more than he could help at the time. Doing what's best for the team, isn't always what is best for the player.JMO
Re: ULM at Louisiana Score Prediction Thread
I would start this game with Ray in the wildcat and a hurry up offense. Even if Davis is healthy.
Re: ULM at Louisiana Score Prediction Thread
Cajuns 38
Monroe 27
We average 6 yards per carry and run the ball down their throats. End of story.
Re: ULM at Louisiana Score Prediction Thread
Speaking of Ford, Did we throw to him at atm?

True... but I can also see that it wasn't an obvious decision. By leaving Davis in, and giving our coaches a little benefit of the doubt, I think it said a combo of "Davis is healthy enough to stay in and possibly work through it, Nunez isn't ready for an A&M (busting his psyche before he even gets his college career started), and Ray's limitations won't turn this around".
My concern wasn't that we wasted a chance of winning. My concern was strictly with getting Davis further injured. Had he gone from ding'd to down for the year... and that could have happened... the fan house would have come down on Hud.

Unless Davis is 100%... and he can't be... I'd start whoever I want to test for QBdepth going forward. We cannot lose this game... so I'd have Davis ready to go in... but I would not start him. I kind of agree with operating a ground attack, with intelligent diversity, and see if we can keep moving the chains. I don't want to see a bunch of 3 and outs, and watch this defense gasping in the second half again. Here's hoping our D has a great game.

You said it yourself. We can't lose this game. You go with your "guy". Now is not the time to start breaking in other QB's for depth and experience building especially when neither of our backups have any FBS experience in leading a team. This scenario would be eerily similar to the one a few years back with Brooks Haack having to go into USA and start his first game. Kid looks great in spot duty and practice but he was not ready to start and we were doomed from the first whistle. I don't think this is the time to try that again if JD can go out there. A limited JD is likely better than a healthy whomever we start.

Let's say he's 90%. If the missing "10%" is the ability to plant and throw accurately, we need to try someone else. If the missing 10% is a little top end speed and a hesitation to cut hard, he needs to play. We can cover the run game with our stable of talented backs. We cannot have a QB sailing passes over wide open targets.

First off, if a guy is 90% in my mind he's healthy enough to where his mechanics wouldn't be thrown off that much to keep him out of a game. We don't know how much he was affected in that game due to the injury when it came to throwing. He made some poor passes but he's done that in every game this season when he was healthy. I'd take my chances with an 80-90% JD over a transfer who hasn't played FBS ball and a guy who is a specialist at best at this stage in his career.
