I'm going to buck the trend and say LTU has a chance. The reason is, I can't see them in a league with ULM and having three Louisiana 1-A schools because it looks too much like the Southland of 30-40 years ago. It's like deja vu all over again. It's also their last chance because if they miss out they will have to send their egos to Death Row. So if they have any kind of inducement to offer they're going to give this opportunity everything they've possibly got.

A lot is on the line for the Cajuns with how this round of realignment turns out. I agree that this is Tech's last shot at CUSA membership. If they get into the Alliance, UL will be a Sunbelt member for a long time . If they miss out again, Tech will end up in the Sunbelt where UL can dominate them in a way that when realignment next comes up, it will be UL that is on the bubble instead of Tech.

CUSA has visited Tech before. Remember? That's when it was down to Tech and UTEP...they visited Tech first...UTEP got in without a visit. It will happen again.
Re: Conference Affiliation
Why does everyone keep using the term realignment??? It is confernce free agency. School to the conference that pays the most and that's what everything is about these days MONEY!! Sounds like everyone is saying the SunBelt isn't a good enough conference. Ok it doesn't get the big bowls and that's where the money is at. It doesn't get the respect the bigger conferences get which is stupid to me. Example.....Lady Cajun Softball has beaten everyone from every conference but can't get higher than #6 in the polls. Why isn't the SunBelt considered more??? Cuz the NCAA and the ____ed up BCS says it isn't ????
ULM....think they should go back to being NLU and go back to the Southland which is a decent 1AA conference.
So who should the Sunbelt keep??? Who would be good additions???
UL of course!! Arkansas State South Alabama the 2 Florida schools possibly. Middle Tennessee and WKU. Heard rumor bout ousting UALR cuz they don't have football. Don't know a heck of a lot bout the conference schools.
Why get Tx state UTA & UTSA in the conference??? They just jumped to the WAC. Why wouldn't they be good schools to have here. Let North TX go if they wanna go to CONF USA. And why not LA Tech???? And Denver can go too.
Why can't we just be happy in the Sun Belt????
Just my humble thoughts and opinions.....

You have to be a lot more sophisticated than this question.
First thing you need to understand is that dollars move things. Schools are moving for dollars, and preception.
ESPN, CBS, ABC, NBC, and to some extent FOX are paying the freight. The SEC expanded not because they needed more schools, or better shcools, they needed or want more money. You take in East Texas and the state of Mizzouri and you drive the revenue up by more than the new schools will cost by a lot. So it goes.
The Sun Belt currently at the bottom of revenue potential by a lot. The WAC is dying and so it does not count, but while it lived it was providing more money than the Sun Belt. It is dying because it got raided.
This new mega conference will generate huge dollars for it's members. I have heard a number from a trusted source that is huge comparaed to where we are now. That is why we cannot be happy in the Sun Belt.
You and many others think ESPN is nuts. They may be right, but is ESPN is going to be nuts, then those who like nuts are going to get fed.
Long and short money and preception. But you already know that.
Re: Conference Affiliation
I don't agree with A&M and Mizzou in the SE conf but I understand why.I understand why all these things are done. $$$ & perception. I understand but I guess what I'm saying is the SE conf is a successful REGIONAL conf why can't the Sun Belt do that??
Re: Conference Affiliation
Get ready to meet your first new conference member. Fits the region, was an original Sun Belt school many decades ago, and brings in a huge television market.

If Benson can keep what he has, and bring in a couple of other big markets, and the MEGA merger does not come to be he might be able to get what you want, but it will come only with expansion to those markets.
Cannot compare ourselves to the most dominant confernce in America from dollars, tradition, and fan acceptance. It simply is not a real question, it is kind of like going to war with windmills.
Re: Conference Affiliation
Would be awesome to get Georgia State. That would be a major market. But that article link you posted doesn't say that they are coming to the SunBelt. What the skinny on GA State??? Good football school??? basketball?? What????
