I'll judge them when I see a full body of work under this new regime. Do you think we should have been viewed the same in the last Bustle year going into the first Hudspeth year? Arkansas has some firepower to turn a program around on a dime. Don't kid yourself. Oh... and average in the SEC... is pretty darn good. Arkansas football isn't something to take lightly... ever.
Anyhow... I really... realistically... wanted to see Arkansas make some mistakes... and UL get some breaks... and keep it close... and try to pull out a win. We just got out played. It is crazy how when you play a dirt bag team, everyone thinks we "look good". When we play a good team, people think we "suck". The opposition has a lot to do with how a play goes. It's just silly to watch people assess nothing but the last two players on the field with the ball and playing the ball... and make their comments. It's just pure football stupid silly. 22 people at a time make the down outcomes. Their 11 did better than our 11 today on the balance of plays. And every player has a part... whether they are near the ball or not.
We're still as good a team as we are. Nothing more... nothing less.
A lot of things need to improve, dramatically soon. Our O-line got destroyed, at one point that started to affect Broadway because he was getting hit every play. When he did have time to throw, we had drops that cant happen. Missing a fieldgoal was not good, we have prided ourself on our kicking game, and cant have that happen. On defense, not one position was decent enough to win. Dline got little penetration, LBers let Tight ends run free and arm tackled like crazy, and our DB's...oh lord our DB's were thoroughly abused.
I hate to be pessimistic, but we have A LOT that we need to improve, and soon, because with K-state next week, things are gonna get worse before they get better.
I don't like the end result, had hoped to get a W. Certainly the defense still needs a lot of work. They had 2 major bad plays against them. One was the long pass, but our guy (not sure who) was right there with him, he just didn't get his head turned around to hit the ball away. The second was the long run, sometimes that happens, need to contain those. Yes, they were gashed up front, and we needed more pressure.
The special teams played well, except the missed FG. Maybe jitters, I don't know, but we really needed those points at that time.
The offense has problems on the ends, our OT's had a long day. They are new, so there is room to grow and improve. The RB's looked great, Alonzo ran hard, McGuire looks good and Pierce was a good change up. A bad drop by Jamal, otherwise he played well. TB wasn't in sync. Had some good plays but didn't throw great. Nice throws to the TE, but didn't spread the ball enough to other wide-outs. Many plays, he had plenty of time but couldn't find anyone. Then, they started getting to him in the second half and that was when it was over.
Got that off my chest, now going clear my head to get ready for next week.
I expected Arkansas to score 31 points. They scored 34.
It's our offense that disappointed me. I thought our receivers and Broadway would be tough to stop. NOT. I predicted 34. We ended up with less than half of that. Offense couldn't move the ball and run down enough time to give the D enough rest time. Just didnt look good.
Surgent sure had a quiet game.
