Every team we play seems to have a few guys that can run it up to the mid 90’s. Our All-American may be able to do that on a good day. But that’s it. Nothing wrong with living around 90 consistently, but you better have some movement and be able to spot it up. If not, it’s just BP.

You can't find that at any high school in the area.

Re: BB Final: Louisiana 7, Tech 10
I’ve been wondering if Gunner is maybe coaching his pitchers like they are him. Almost like he is calling pitches like he himself is on the mound. It feels like he’s asking these kids to make pitches they just can’t make instead of playing to their strengths. You can do that with Morgan and maybe Herm when he’s on. Other than that whatever is going on just isn’t working. A lot of these guys aren’t even close to the zone. And if they are, it’s 89 mph right down the middle. Whatever is going on is not working.

All these teams don't have guys throwing that hard. And btw you said ANY high school teams I the area. Guys throwing 89 in high school isn't a dime a dozen.

Well the ones that throw harder aren’t coming here. Why not?

I make this site hard lol? Did you see the question that I was asked? How would I know why a hard thrower isn't signing or being recruited by UL. Did you really think I had the answer to that question? I answered him fairly and led him to who might be able to answer that question.

Re: BB Final: Louisiana 7, Tech 10
Problem is we had Martinez last year who was inconsistent and wild. He leaves us and now he has 65k and only 15 walks. He throws 95mph. Have to ask yourself what the hell happened last year with him

Exactly. High 80's is still uncommon in high school.

Wasn’t asking you specifically. I was asking a broad question about what could be going on in our world of recruiting.

Will be interesting to see how Sawyer Pruitt develops when he gets here. He is currently sitting low to mid 90s with his fastball.

Correct, average fastball velocity of a varsity pitcher is 75-85. Our larger schools will have usually have 3 guys that can get up into high 80s. We have 2 but they don't throw strikes consistently & will go JUCO to develop. As far as people saying the Cajuns are only signing guys that throw mid 80s, look at the 2026 commits.
RHP Sawyer Pruitt (low 90s)
LHP Bryce Wilson (low 90s)
RHP Sam Mitchell (mid 90s).

And he's a strike thrower. Against St Amant yesterday:
6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 7 Ks, 78 pitches

I’m really hoping we can hold on to these guys.

We have the top 3 arms in the state according to 2D Sports. I have not had a chance to see Cade Durbin pitch but I'm more than familiar with his father. He comes from a good pedigree for sure.

Hopefully Sawyer makes it through the draft.

He has four pitches. Gunner only wanted him to use two. They hated each other. It's more of a pamphlet than a book, really.
