Exactly.

True, and they always will (miss on some).

Wasn’t a conspiracy in how certain coaches there discourage kids from going to UL for athletics, but it wasn’t all the coaches.
I believe the relationships across the board in all sports are much better than say…15 years ago or so.

According to Glasco every kid he talked about was elite. The reality is most wasn't. Me and you have watched a lot of softball thru out the years, very rarely did I or we see elite talent.

Thr people in my inner circle knows. It doesn't matter the reason, these kids have signed elsewhere.

Re: This can't happen anymore.
A coach should recruit to their position needs and get the best player available that is willing to attend their university. No matter where they live.
There will be misses. Every time an instate player in any sport has a big year not at TSAB, their board is neck deep of “why did Coach (pick a sport) let them get away?”
It’s part of the business.

Re: This can't happen anymore.
I was told by a few different people that Coach Ally has already been told that they missed on these kids. JMV didn't tell me this, but I trust in his judgment of talent. Coaches at STM knows these kids can play at UL.

All coaches hype up the kids they get. Ever hear a coach say, “yeah I shouldn’t have signed her. She’s awful.”?
Glasco did a good job, overcame both UL and personal hardships, and he left. Now, let’s go Coach Habetz!

Who cares? She has an opportunity to build her own program here and establish a system. I've found coaches in many cases are no different than parents and fans, they all have opinion. Some of those opinions are not worth the time of day to be concerned with. I have no opinion on either athlete and I hope they have success in their careers. Neither will have any impact on the success or non-success of the UL program.

But thanks for the lecture.

Two kids 10 mins down the road going to other programs sucks. I have seen both of these kids play numerous times, obviously one more than the other, but UL should have considered both of them. STM and their club teams play top notch talent and they have the stats to back up their play on the field. Also both have great grades and high character. Hopefully from this day on the Cajuns can get the very best talent in their back yard first. With NIL now it will get harder and harder to get kids from further away.

So let me get this straight...
- Player A commits to Southern Miss (last regional: 2004) in July. She had also given "strong consideration" to Wichita State (5 regional appearances since 2016), though unknown if she had offers.
- Player B originally committed to Northwestern State (last regional: 2014) but decommitted when Lacy Prejean left to go to UL. She then committed to Creighton (last regional: 2010)
- Allyson Habetz--softball coach who helped guide Alabama to six SEC regular season titles, five SEC Tournament titles, 14 Women's College World Series appearances and a 2012 national championship--missed when she didnt recruit Player A and Player B...even though 1/3 of her initial signing class are from the same school as Player A and Player B.
- Using the same logic, Beth Torina--softball coach of a rival SEC school 50 miles west who has seven 40-win seasons and four trips to the Women’s College World Series--missed when she didn't recruit Player A and Player B.
- The head coaches of McNeese, ULM, and whatever other in-state school missed when they didn't recruit Player A and Player B.
- JMV has seen both Player A and Player B play, and they are among the best players of the state.
We should totally trust JMV on this....he knows softball. Allyson, Beth, and the other HCs are clearly not as smart.
This is in no way to disparage Player A or B. I hope they go on to be All-Americans, because I like locals succeeding. But I think I trust Allyson Habetz over JMV.

Re: This can't happen anymore.
I see some comments referring to "relationships with HS coaches". If that's EXACTLY what it is, that's a toughy. If relationship means "how much $$$ the coach is getting".....screw em.

Lots of interesting opinions on this thread. Cajunsby90 is the only one who has an inkling to what is happening in College Softball Recruiting. Cajunsby90 is "right on" with this statement. Gerry Glasco recruited the 2025 Class. It was "all done" when Alyson got here. There were some loopholes in the logic because of the coaches leaving; both Gerry and Lacy and Alyson coming in, but with all of the other things Alyson had to deal with, I am sure looking to reverse what Gerry had done was not on her radar. Don't blame Habetz. She will try to get Louisiana players in the future.
FYI, the coaches nationwide are trying to identify players in the eighth and ninth grade, now. They know who the juniors are that they want to make an offer to. And they are pretty close to knowing which High School Sophomores they want to offer. It makes sense to recruit smart players from Louisiana as they can get TOPS money and Lord knows, MONEY is all important right now.
Also, point to ponder: Because of the depleted roster, Coach Habetz had to get into the Portal and pick up some "missing pieces". That brought the total Roster to 25. Gerry had 22 on his Roster for the last few years. It costs more money to have 25 than 22. Consider food, hotel, travel, equipment, etc. We at UL do not have enough MONEY. The plain fact is, we will never have enough money. Alyson is going to have to tighten the belt somewhere to make up for the extra roster spots. BTW, Alabama's National Championship team had a Roster of 20.

Or raise more money! I've heard she has done well there, so keep pushing because there is never enough money.
