Hard to believe we haven't hit rock bottom under marlin yet.

First, it's injuries. Then, it's lack of fan support. Then, it's NIL dollars. Then, it's Ragin Review. Then, it's random people who don't like the coach for no reason.

Can we hold our head coach accountable just once? He's the man in charge. He's been in charge for 15 years. I don't mean to come off as rude, but this is the lowest of lows I have seen this basketball program in my lifetime; and there is no excuse for that.

Knew what I said would be taken as I’m a Marlin disciple. You guys are amazing.

Sorry, I don’t go on message boards saying fire people, the HC is cruising to retirement, he doesn’t care. Worked with too many coaches to know how much losses kill them.

And quite frankly I doubt I watch another minute of this year’s team. All I said was here comes the normal fire the coach after a loss and an observation that UAB had better players.

Don’t be a stranger. Even if you don’t watch the team, don’t let that stop you from lecturing the fans of said team. A little more wisdom like yours and we might be able to get our average attendance below 1,000.

Not sure your angle here. If the players aren't good enough to compete with UAB after 15 years of being the head coach then yeah that's on Marlin

If that excuse is because of NIL money then that's not going to get better anytime soon unless there's a change that gives people reason for optimism

I’m sorry I don’t post the same drivel after every single game about how this coach has ruined a proud program. The same program that has won one NCAA Tournament game since I’ve been alive. And I’m old.

And I get it. He’s been part of it for 15 years or whatever it is. He’s had 2 NCAA Tournament teams (and 1 that easily could have been).

But you guys hated Fletcher, you hated Evans, you hated Des (till this year). Seeing the trend? This is a hard school to win at if you haven’t noticed.

I believe the school has to think differently if they want this men’s basketball program to be successful.

But what do I know? I’m just here to lecture.

The tenancy is to lump all fans together or declare that the entire board has a single stance. But more often than not the feelings are varied.

For instance, different fan factions were dissatisfied with each coach you mentioned.

The ones who are most supportive of Marlin were least supportive of Evans.

Marty's wife drove the bus of discontentment during his tenure.

Of all the basketball coaches Dez had more in common with Robert E Lee than anyone else.

He will also end up in a class by himself.

I was too young for Fletcher, but I liked Evans. Plus, we drew crowds of 5,000 or more. And the basketball back then was exciting. Look at the crowds at the basketball games now. We quadrupled the attendance at a Fall Ball game at The Tigue a few weeks ago over the current attendance at the Cajundome. Two of our starters left last year not because of NIL money, but because of the current state of the program. Fans have checked out. And as of now, this season is only going to get worse.

You remind me a certain other “fan” on this board. Doesn’t go to the games. Doesn’t watch. But wants to lecture other people like they are some kind of expert saint. When they announce that bogus 1,300 attendance figure, I’m one of those damn people. I see every game how far this proud program has fallen. “Proud program” may be a sarcastic joke to you, but it’s not to me. We used to put an exciting product out on that court, and our home games were something worth seeing. Now it’s a damn sideshow for the social club.

You make very good points. All I really felt the need to address is I don’t like to say “fire the coach,” and it is annoying to me to see the Marlin must go posts every gameday.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s clear the fan base as a whole would like to see a change. To Marlin’s credit, and everyone here knows, he wins at contract time. Makes it harder to move on.

I don’t know him. I’ve heard he’s a good person (to hear that about a head men’s basketball coach is not exactly common), I know he knows the game, and I hope he has success. Gonna be his most challenging year here, however, it appears.
