I agree finding a center type player this late with any skill is a long shot. I am not talking about at 6 10 kid. I am talking about a 6 6 or 6 7 small forward type player..~.

Would be great if anyone could post highlights. Unfortunately can't get streaming at work. :/\:
Jay - will it be archieved on your site later??
Thanks,
Shof
I think that the interviews that most of the hosts have on ESPN140 are very informative but I think Jay sets the guests up with questions that provide favorable responses. It would nice if the fans and supporters of the programs could call and ask questions. G.R.E.A.T. Scott has a very nice conversation with Gus Kattengail on Fridays but that is just what it is, a conversation between him and Gus. It would be nice if the fans and supporters could have a little more interaction with the guests from time to time. The Sportsnote with Billy Ryckman does an excellent job of providing listeners with this opportunity.
mike You have heard much of what was said. There were a few new comments. I listened to the whole hour trying to soak it in because it was so refreshing.
He is looking to add a new player before Monday when classes start at UL. Cannot mention names until then. It is very important to have extra depth at gaurd position, not just games but to have a good practices when injuries hit.
Kids want to be coached and learn how to improve.
Coach Marlin has talked to every former head coach except Marty and many assistants. Tradition and keeping it alive was one reason he came to UL. He met with Scott F about fan benefits and activities.
He was not surprised about some transition attrition.
He wants to win now. Our Team will be competitive in every game and hustle.
I am already excited about the season. Other fans are welcome to add onto my comments.
GEAUX CAJUNS
In mentioning talking to all those other former coaches he mentioned the tradition of UL basketball that attracted him to the position.
He also mentioned the IPF as being a great benefit due to the Cajundome being a multi-use facility.
In addition to saying the kids want to be coached he mentioned they also want to be disciplined and he and Jay talked about successful coaches who have been disciplinarians.
I am going to take liberty and paraphrase a bit and may be off a percentage point or two but here is the gist of what I heard. . .
He mentioned it is hard to schedule visiting teams to the Cajun Dome because the building has a historical winning percentage of 71% for the home team Ragin' Cajuns.
He mentioned it is hard to schedule teams to any Bob Marlin arena because the man has a historical home winning percentage of 84%
When you combine those two factors opponents run scared.
However he touched on his own philosophy of when to hit hard venues and I thought I could sense him using the logic to entice the coaches of other teams to play here when they want to toughen up a senior laden squad.
I have yet to hear anything come out of this guys mouth that i don't like. I already love this guy and he hasn't even coached a game here yet. I hope he can walk the walk.
Coach also apologized for scheduling home games on Fridays in the fall because he really doesn't want to go against HS Football. He said it was unavoidable this first season, but they will work hard to avoid it in the future.
Also mentioned Trent Johnson didn't have room for us this season but wanted to play a scrimmage in Lafayette, but coach felt it would help us to do that. Johnson reassured him that we would play next year.
Talked about how his teams can play fast, play defensive, play offensive or any other style that best suits the players. He wont know exactly how this first team will play but they will be a hard working team.
Jay, Scott and Bob talked about how Sam Houston won different ways during his tenure in Huntsville. Look about midway through this blog for more specific stats on how he did that:

You guys have done a wonderful job in recapping the conversation. Here's a synopsis with perhaps a little more detail.
SPRING WORKOUTS
He was very happy with the players' work ethic and their willingness to adapt to the new staff. He felt that they made significant progress in just a two week period. Said he believes that players want to be instructed, want to be disciplined and want to be told what to do. (I mentioned that Lou Henson said the same thing to me in a past interview.)
ACADEMICS
Said he felt they needed to be better there and pushed them hard the last couple of months. Mentioned that two of his players at SHSU just graduated in three years. That impressed me.
TRADITION
He has spoken to Coach Shipley (they've had lunch three times), Coach Paschal, Coach Evans and Coach Lee. I jjust gave him Coach Fletcher's phone number and he plans to call him as well. He wants to learn more about the past.
ATTRITION
Asked specifically about Gradnigo and if it was a surprise. His response was "not really." Said he told the players in the first meeting that one or two of them probably wouldn't be there by the fall. Did not specifically address Gradnigo and it was obvious he had no desire to do so.
SCHEDULING
We have 14 home games and 14 away games. Looking to add a home game if the dates work out and the opponent is right. Would not have a problem keeping it at 28. Will not add another road game. Talked about the difficulty of scheduling based on Louisiana and Marlin historical success at home. No one in the SEC or Big XII wanted to play, even at their place. Said we'll probably play LSU next year. Believes that the bulk of the non conference schedule should come from CUSA, SEC, BIG XII and SLC. Didn't say this on air but look for the Bayou Classic to return next season. Believes that Tulane, McNeese, Lamar, LSU, Houston and Rice should be staples of the schedule. Also said because of the late start in scheduling there will be some FRiday and Sunday home games. He's not excited about that and wants to avoid it in the future.
START OF SCHOOL/PRACTICE
Team willl have a team dinner Sunday night. Nothing the first week except a few meetings so the players can get acclimiated to school. Then they'll start individual workouts. Practice begins Oct. 15. Wants to have a showcase for the first practice, either at EKL or the Dome. Working on that now.
RECRUITING
Trying to address some depth issues at guard. Hopes to have another new player (besides LeBato) join the team when school starts. Will have 6 schollies to give next year. Wants to take care of half of that in the early period. Likes the reception they are getting from recruits and is encouraged by the caliber of player that is expressing interest.
STYLE OF PLAY
Coach to win. He's had to coach deliberate play and have had teams that could go up and down the floor. While he prefers the latter, he says his philosophy will be determined by his talent.
The following is a personal opinion.
It's early yet. Coach Marlin and I are just getting to know each other. When I spoke to him shortly after the final four, I told him I was going to help him by getting the hell out of his way and letting him do his job. He thanked me. We didn't get together again until Tuesday when we had lunch. In both our private and yesterday, our public conversation, I realized that initially he reminds me of someone else when it comes to professionalism, accountability, plan to build a program and doing things right.
Tony Robichaux.
I can't pay a higher compliment than that.
