Renewed my season tickets.
Much to the chagrin of the folks in front of me.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
Question I have is who are now the likely starters that will replace Amos and Pedescleaux?

They took Brown from Southern knowing Pedescleaux could leave after graduation. He will be in competition with a few others including Flowers. Flowers is the heir apparent unless they have a position change in mind for him. You lose experience with Pedescleaux, he wasn't the greatest athlete on the field.
Amos hurts more because this was his first year as a full-time starter and he is just going to get better. Anderson has a shot at one corner and a few others are in the mix. Don't be surprised if a JC transfer is added during the summer.

Guess what we don’t have.

But Des better get in that portal . . .

What if we chose to not put up with the BS and not spend our money on this (R@P. That is a choice. If the NCAA decides to let the P5s destroy the sport I don’t have to support it. If all the rest of the universities don’t stand up and defend themselves then shame on them. I am about to start treating college football like the NFL on the patio and on the TV. It’ll save me a grand or so a year.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
I reluctantly renewed my tickets this year. Pretty sure this will be my last. New stadium(lol) or not..

Pedescleaux hurts a plenty. The guy was a hell of a ball player.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
So how is Mike's ironclad grip on keeping the culture of all for one & one for all in place looking right about now? There's one can of bull crap we can throw out the window.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
We, like a lot of non-SEC, schools are screwed because money talks and BS walks. I now watch Women’s softball until the idiots let men play and destroy that for me. People really do suck!

Well joy is having an ability to truly compete for a national title next year and that all gets screwed up by NIL and the portal because you can’t keep quality players to make you competitive in the new playoff scenario. Why spend my money that can’t compete on a level playing field.

I'll try to find/post the link, but by the NCAA's own reporting, 46% of players who enter the portal go unsigned. Don't remember if this is in general or specific to football.
I would assume there is a reason. Or reasons.
BTW, with the investment the Haves are putting into softball, I really fear that we won't be able to hold onto Davis and Allred.
I think this might be beyond football...college sports might be dead.
I know Davis and Allred personally. We are ok.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
Money talks, regardless of the sport. We’ll see this summer for the bat sports.
I sense a summer of overall discontent on the RP horizon.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
Can the administration and AD give us a good reason to why we should give them our money if we are not going to compete? The reality of the situation is until rules are actually changed on NIL and the portal college athletics as a whole is in a death spiral for 1000+ schools and the 30 schools that have big money will just be semi pro sports teams…. Institute a salary cap and contracts in college athletics. Make transfer portal and NIL almost obsolete. Free agency happens twice a year and let athletic departments sell ownerships to the highest bidder.

Well, if that is how you define your joy, i will present to you, that every school is facing the same thing, i suspect in time, a pattern with be shown that a lot of different teams were competitive depending on the year and all with rotate 1 to 2 years. this year we just had 2 G5 teams in MBB final four. Also means there could be big swings in team performance from year to year.

I am not too worried about this. We made it to a Regional Championship game last year with a freshman class ranked as the # 1 recruiting class in the country, with all the starters set to return, yet we did not lose a single girl to the portal.
Our family atmosphere surrounding softball, not just players and coaches, but also the fan base, will keep the girls here. There is no other sport at UL in which the team members are so strongly invested in the coaches and fans; and very few other schools have anything like it to offer our girls as incentive to leave.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
Des needs to use the portal now. We will have no choice but to use the portal as well.

That would be like telling professional teams that their player's endorsements must be counted toward the salary cap. That's not going to happen. This is one reason why teams in major markets have advantages over small market teams. Regardless of salary caps, the athletes have far more endorsement opportunities in major markets.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
I know it is small potatoes, but UL did hit the portal this year in a couple of cases.
Trey Fite LB from SMU
Glenn Brown CB from Southern
and most recently a Punter from the SEC, but I forgot the exact details on this one. It's not like Dez is not using the portal at all, I know in the past he has said they need to be strategic about when and where they use it.
-
Re: The Portal Strikes Again
For one thing, Des is limited to the use of the portal with athletes who expect little to no NIL money.

Only those who have sat behind All-Americans for two or three years yet respect their own potential enough to expect a pro career "if given a chance to improve" will be ready to play for little or no NIL money.
GO get EM Des, this is not a hard to desipher group.

I have not met too many young people who lack interest in money. I guess that is my hang up.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
I don't envy Dez or any other G5 coach. Kind of hard to build and sustain culture when each player is working for an NIL call and worrying about a friend on the team working on an NIL call. And I think we need a new term: P5 contract. True NIL was intended to allow popular players (Manziel) to sell autographs and do endorsements due to true national recognition.
A Trey Amos and a Kam Pedescleaux don't have name recognition for endorsements. They are looking for P5 contracts.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
I don’t think the US Supreme Court intended to only protect the abilities of the limited few you identify when they came down with the NIL decision.
