Well, to bring it together, NMSU made a real chicken $h!+ move.
I say son, see how easy! Now let me go beat on that pinhead dawg…

Re: New Mexico State dropped from 2023 Football Schedule
Didn’t Wyoming and Tulsa back out on games with Louisiana of late?

3 options left
Home FCS call up.. counts But no one goes
Mcneese well attended game but does not count
P5 road money game
Smu is a wild card but they will want a 2 for 1

Re: New Mexico State dropped from 2023 Football Schedule
I know we’re losing a home game. Odds are we’ll end up overpaying a FCS team since they know we’re in a bind.
SMU, meh…that’s more exciting than McNeese or an other FCS.
Scrap it, go 7-4 or better (which is the minimum I expect in year 2) and go from there. And take notes, no NMSU in any sport.

Memo, Ohio is traveling there first. We needed a home game this season. Just say.

Miami
Just checked, they added Bethune Cookman.
Any other P5 looking?

Re: New Mexico State dropped from 2023 Football Schedule
What's more valuable? A home game (this year) vs SMU as part of a 2 for 1 or getting a bottom feeder FCS school at home. Maggard needs to look at value. Forget the fuzzy math he uses to justifiy against a 2 for 1. ALL of our peers in the belt have 2 or 3 for 1 deals with P5 schools. Marshall and App both parleyed victories into more exposure than you can ever buy. In fact, App turned its win at Texas AM into 500 Million Dollars of free exposure! Is Maggard that damn blind?

We just did a 2/1 with UAB, so what's the difference? I'd take that with SMU.

Re: New Mexico State dropped from 2023 Football Schedule
Is Baylor still looking? If they are, do it.
If not, do a deal with SMU.
We don't HAVE TO schedule another FCS, and we shouldn't.

Another home game is more valuable to the staff and the program. It's the AD's job to facilitate his staff with the support financially and in scheduling to help them win.
From a fan standpoint, I get wanting to see better teams at Cajun Field. We've played the likes of Kansas St, Oklahoma St, Minnesota and others in Lafayette. That was a different time and it didn't help us win, and it didn't enhance attendance. There is no guarantee that signing any 2 for 1 deal with any such program today will eventually not end up being bought out when it's time for the return trip to Lafayette. It happens alot more often than people think.

The best thing for this program is another P5, single game.

The ULM model?

Nice try.
They are selling their souls, trying to survive. We would be scheduling another opportunity to grow the program. They HAVE TO do it. We CHOOSE TO do it.
Completely different, and to insinuate that we would get similar results as they do by merely scheduling the same number of P5s is very disingenuous.

Re: New Mexico State dropped from 2023 Football Schedule
Negotiate a 2 for 1 quick with the zero cost to the opponent game be up front. (unheard of)
This year UL goes for free, next game they pay, third game Louisiana gets a quality opponent at home.

Des beat us when he pulled a QB that scored his first 2 possessions of the game. He just told the rest of his team my word to this one kid is more important than the rest of you. It was like someone stuck a pin in a ballon on that sideline they got deflated so fast.

Now you’re just making up crap whole-cloth.

I believe we only did a 1 for 1 with UAB? The other game we begged them to play during the Covid year when games were getting dropped. That game wasn't part of any 2 for 1 agreement.

That’s correct. And a road victory was great.

Yet you failed to explain how it's growth for the program? So, who's being disingenuous here? On paper, giving up another home game for the opportunity to play another P5 on the road looks the same, irrespective of the motive.
