Re: 2018 Official Ragin Pagin Football Coaching Carousel Thread
Gus Malzahn about to get the axe at Auburn?
"Turns out, Gus Malzahn's job at Auburn isn't nearly as safe as once thought. There is a serious movement among high-powered officials at AU to fire him. To the point that a replacement has been identified and initial meetings held to gauge interest. Happy, Monday."
Geez Louise:
Malzahn signed a 7-year, $49 million contract after leading Auburn to wins over Georgia and Alabama en route to an SEC West championship in 2017. The cost to buy the sixth-year Auburn coach out of his contract at this point is a reported $32 million with $16 million of that due nearly immediately should they make this decision.
Bob Stoops next in line?

$32 million to go home? Ridiculous..why wouldn’t you want to get fired?

Don't know Vic, not a McNeese insider. I heard they were interested in Leger from someone that is his friend. It's strictly a rumor as far as I know and probably comes at an inopportune time for us during recruiting. It might be best not to mention it again unless the media puts something out.

Timing may not be right. I know the family is excited to be in Lafayette for Gunner's final season. Ashley was overjoyed to move back to Lafayette. A question to be asked here would be financial considerations. Viator was making 150 at McNeese. I don't know they were paying Guidry that much. Leger is making 140k here.
I'm not saying he wouldn't take it if offered, but there are other considerations here, I think.

It was a no brainer to see him come back home to south Louisiana last year especially knowing that his son would be pitching his last year with the Cajuns this year.

Re: 2018 Official Ragin Pagin Football Coaching Carousel Thread
...He wanted to play for UL after his baseball deal but realized that Jake was here and went to McN.....what keeps him here would be his son and that he loves Lafayette..... the desire to be the head coach and possibly more bucks in LC......no doubt he has some strong relationships from his playing and coaching days with the Cowboys, but Lafayette LC comparisons might come into play!

Re: 2018 Official Ragin Pagin Football Coaching Carousel Thread
Update from FootballScoop on Louisville job opening......includes comments about Scott Satterfield and Neil Brown.
.......................................
Bobby Petrino is out, and much of Louisville’s roster is “in the portal” (i.e. considering transfer options). Word in the profession is that a rebuild won’t happen overnight — and that has become a negotiating chip in the Jeff Brohm sweepstakes.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Brohm, through his agent, put that chip on the table in discussions with Louisville about their opening. Brohm wants years and dollars commensurate with what they see as a process that will take time to rebuild. The ask, we’re told, is meaningful but not what anyone in major college football these days would consider over the top. Thus far, Louisville’s side has maintained that there are other viable options who would accept less and that Brohm should be “more reasonable.”
The song and dance continue, but we have been told that Louisville has put a mid-week “deadline” for a decision from Brohm. Deadlines spur action. If he isn’t willing to commit, Louisville has told Brohm they will move on to further discussions with other candidates. It is worth mentioning however that Brohm’s buyout reduces by $1.1 million either on or after Dec. 5, which is next Wednesday.
Should Brohm not accept the job, the two names sources continue to tell FootballScoop are at the ready are App State head coach Scott Satterfield and Troy head coach Neal Brown. Both are proven head coaches who have won with far less resources than Louisville has to offer.

Another example of why having that larger assistant's salary pool is key.

Coach in waiting? We have zero idea how long he’d be a coach in waiting. 1-3-5-7 years. No idea.

Seeing all the Briles baggage talk, while not related, it reminded me about the old sheriff from St. Landry Parish - Cat Doucet.
True story. One day, a reporter from the Times Picayune cornered him for an interview. She said, Sheriff Doucet, we understand that you are knowingly allowing houses of ill repute to operate in your parish. He said, you can quote me "a little poosie never hurt nobody." He then said, "she never quoted me"
When you hire Briles, you hire his reputation.

Re: 2018 Official Ragin Pagin Football Coaching Carousel Thread
From Footballscoop:
When we last left the Texas State search, the Bobcats were making a strong push to hire Kendal Briles. Since then, sources have told FootballScoop that Houston has made a strong push to keep its offensive coordinator.
Still, even if Briles is off the table, that pursuit is indicative of the track this search is following.
Texas State has also spoken with South Florida offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert and Ole Miss offensive coordinator Phil Longo, but sources told FootballScoop Wednesday that West Virginia offensive coordinator Jake Spavital has emerged as a strong target for the Bobcats.
All three have experience in the state of Texas. Gilbert is a San Angelo, Texas, native who began his career in the Texas high school ranks and spent one season as the Texas offensive coordinator. Longo came to Ole Miss from Sam Houston State, where he was FootballScoop’s FCS Offensive Coordinator of the Year in 2016. Spavital is an Oklahoma native who spent one season as a graduate assistant at Houston and three as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas A&M.
