Surely you don't think we can pay him what Auburn is paying him this year?

From what I'm seeing on the field, Hud should start from scratch again on defense. The UL defense is pathetic and looks unorganized and chaotic. I don't see quality coaching and little talent, I see poor coaching and quality talent, especially at linebacker. The defense is awful and it would be a hopeless off-season knowing this same group of coaches are back next year doing the same thing as what we are seeing now.
Read the articles from these past couple days, write down the injuries they list on defense, what do you suggest the staff do differently? The defense had had a couple shutout halfs...3 point halfs. They aren't the iron curtain by any means but awful and hopeless aren't what come to my mind when I think of this defense...injured and undermanned.
I can't tell what in this defense is attributable to our injury/loss of expected starters... and what is attributed to the coaching staff. I guess I'm seeing a better scheme. I guess. But I've always been concerned when we bring in coaches that coached P5 programs, expecting that they're going to make us better. I think most of them are dependent on P5 talent at every position.
I was very disappointed to hear Hud admit we missed 50 tackles because we were trying to strip the ball against USA. He confessed that he led that stupid "we need turnovers" BS... but why did Melvin and his staff go along with that stupidity for 4 quarters? It definitely cost us a football game.
People can run the talent excuse all they want, but I definitely think our coaches blew this year up more than it being a down year talent wise.
I think we could have held Lafayette Middle School to under 100 yards. I'm not saying our defense didn't have some good series stops. But when you look at the breakdowns this year against some mediocre offenses, we had some extremely costly failures on defense. If Hud wouldn't have put Haack in 3rd and long so often, we could have perhaps overcome our defensive issues enough to win a couple more games... but Hud wasn't up for that this season.
No doubt, it was a failed strategy and should have been dropped after the 1st qtr. It certainly cost us that game. Really though, I haven't seen crisp tackling all season in any game. There were a few instances, but as a whole, the defense lacks intensity and decisiveness.
We had a CB playing safety who gave up 2 touchdowns because he never played safety in his life. We were playing against a QB who just left a memorial for his recently murdered father, it was the best game of his life which was 15-39 or something? 2 blown coverages by a guy who should have never been in that position. No TJ worthy, no Crawford, no lightfoot, no posey,no Alexander, no Thomas, Watson just returned from injury only to be shoved in a position he never played before. That's just on the defensive side and half the guys are playing hurt. While tovell has played great since moving inside, you still took him away from the outside. Emtire new staff, system and verbiage...10 games and we haven't started the same 11 yet on defense.
Alright crazycajun, I can see you think this staff is making progress and it's not their fault we are bad, but I'm not convinced. Let's just re-evaluate after the next two games and see where we are.
