I realize this is of personal opinion based on many factors the responder may have, but I believe the fact that McNeese is leading with over 52% has some meaning. I'm am somewhat disappointed that this game would have such a significance for our fans. I think for the older folks, history plays a big part. However, a game with a D1-AA opponent should not be the "best" home game. I have other thoughts about what this means for our program, but would like to hear what others think before going further. _
I voted for the Troy game.
Nothing else matters but a Conference Championship. If these people want to get all excited about a game that is going to amount to a hill of beans, so be it. I'm looking ahead.

You guys have to much kool aid on the brain. I'm a Cajun fan. Go look at the McNeese board. I think we can beat them by 21 if we have the team we were suppose to have last year. I do pull for McNeese if they are on TV and doesn't effect us. I do the same for Tech, Tulane and even USM if they are going against a BCS school. BTW what is my point? I have no idea what you talking about to "prove my point". The following is my position on the the McNeese game. It will attract a good crowd. If we are going to play a 1-AA it might as well be a team that will bring a crowd. The danger is that we must beat them because they are in our backyard. I have not yet voted in that poll.

You guys? I said it. Also, I am not one of the group you make constant kool-aid jokes about... although I must admit, sugar-free grape rocks.
Your point/my point was that you were beating the Cowboy drum so hard in prior threads, I cannot imagine you haven't overloaded the poll with your vote(s). Finding out that you have yet to vote only makes me realize that we are about to see the McNeese game go to 99%. ;)
Re: Poll on Ragincajuns.com
I don't understand why some people are up in arms because a few people are actually looking forward to the McNeese game. I personally am excited about the idea of going to a filled stadium for an UL game. Man, get over it, people complain about UL not making money, this will be a great chance to make money from ticket sales, my goodness.

How have I been beating the Cowboy drum? I probably will not vote. I don't care about that poll. I just want us to beat the heck out of them.
Re: Football season cookoff
I remember wondering why they didn't have one last homecoming :???: We should have one every year.

Certainly there is truth in your statement. In the grand scheme of things, conference championships are what truly matters and a conference championship and a New Orleans Bowl berth is something that is long overdue for the Cajuns. The same is true for McNeese except we still have a chance to get an at-large berth in the FCS playoffs and a win over 1-A UL just enhances that chance.
However, I would hardly call this game "amounting to a hill beans." It will certainly be a money maker for McNeese with very low out-of-pocket expenses for travel and lodging. And further, if Cajun Field fills up which I think would be a stretch, 30,000 fans at $20 a ticket still comes out to $600,000 and that is not even close to the economic impact that added fans will bring to the Hub City for that particular evening.
But I understand about looking at the big picture. Both schools have to. I just think somebody made a wise decision that will financially impact both schools. And I said before, LSU won't play the Louisiana 1-AA schools but they will give $450,000 to out-of-state Appalachian State; so, I tip my hat to UL.

The deciding poll will be the game's attendance figure, but these are the dog days of summer. Seems to me this poll is kinda no harm, no foul. imo

Re: Football season cookoff
I just figured it would bring out the best cooks and bring out some extra fans to the area. Maybe a prize of some sort would generate a bigger outcome. And the results would be announced at least an HOUR before the game. That way they don't have an excuse for not going in the game. It could be like the...uh.......1st Annual Ragin Q'in Cookoff or somethin like that.

You got it. A few are looking forward to this game but a lot of us see the Troy game as far more significant in the big picture of UL football. It's the first SBC game of the 2007 season and it's against the reigning champion. Let's put it to 'em.
No disrespect to anyone but playing McNeese is like playing Northwestern St. and Nichols St.

Well... if Troy fans were jumping on here going on and on about their game, I would be telling them that the McNeese game will have a much better attendance. It just makes this diatribe more fun.
Keep it clean, keep it fun, and keep it up!

Always a good day when "rivals" meet on the playing field.
Re: Ragin Cajun Fan Day - August 12 from 5-7 pm.
So close but so far. We are going to be visiting on Aug. 10 and 11 butheading home around noon on the 12th. Does anyone know if I can catch a practice on Friday or Saturday?
Re: Football season cookoff
Is there a preseason tailgate party?
Re: Poll on Ragincajuns.com
(Sorry for the delay, I was out of town)
I voted for Troy also. This game will have implications towards our goal of getting to a bowl game. Bowl games bring recognition to the program and we build from there. I can understand though the buzz with an old rival coming to town. A sold out stadium would be great for our team, they deserve it. More importantly, I see it as a must win for recruiting purposes. Not that we directly compete for the same recruits, but this could severely damage our already fragile, but improving football image with in-state talent.
If it turns out that the McNeese game is seen as one of the more "exciting" games we have at home, then it seems our fans are not buying into our Sun Belt competition.
I'm looking forward to a GREAT Ragin Cajun Year! Geaux UL!

in no way did i mean to disrespect the mcneese football program. in fact, i think this is a great game for our schedule. i would rather play mcneese than a northwestern state, mcneese will bring a larger fanbase. the way i see it, a sold out crowd and a winning record heading into the Troy game will be just great. .~.

Based on you remark, it seems like you would prefer we play in the Southland Conference. Maybe we'll set new attendance records?
I was at our homecoming game last season when the Cajuns went in at 4-2 and we had a fantastic crowd for Middle Tennessee. Too bad we got our clock cleaned because had we won it and been sitting at 5-2, I honestly believe local fan interest would have increased for the remaining homes games. Instead, the season and our fans went in a different direction.

Yes, and no. In the grand scheme of things a win or loss against McNeese is no different than it would be vs NSU or Nichols. But neither of those schools were ever the natural rival that "USL/McNeese" was back in the day. So in this sense, its a bigger deal for many older alumni and fans who supported our program 15-20+ years ago. I know I'll be there and looking forward to kicking some Coyboy butt! ..O..

Its tough to compare "rivalry games" when one has been played maybe 50+ times and the others less than 10. I don't think anyone is dissing the SBC games; just that many (most) of them haven't had the time to develop into natural rivalries yet. That's why so many of us still enjoy the opportunity to play LaTech too. We've been at it for almost a century!
