Coming home, her slide was pretty awkward. May or may not have been caused by the catcher blocking home plate.
My wife said it looked like her ankle bent at a pretty funky angle at the joint.
Had to be helped off of the field.
Didn’t notice who they put in center though.
By the way, it was pretty convenient put in the ESPN plus feed on only to hear Ian and Yvette. Convenient and cool.

Twisted an ankle hitting first base bag. Out for the game.

Hayden didn't get injured coming home. She tripped over the first base bag. The game really needs a safety base at first.

The safety base at first is a no brainer, it's used in international play I think. I guess it makes too much sense for the NCAA.

Ah. I know I was confused at the time.
It was the scramble of that whole series. Couldn't tell what happened where. Just seemed it happened at home and my wife said it looked like whoever slid in turned her ankle.

Why does softball need a safety base? Just curious.

If you would have received a text or a PM, you would have been right on it.

As somebody who damaged ligaments trying to beat out a grounder at first base (my toes were on first and the whole of my foot was on the ground in front of it; my toes ended up touching my shin) I endorse the concept of a safety base.
The other bases you're sliding into, running/rounding over.
Probably wouldn't be a bad idea in baseball, as well.
Re: SB: Louisiana 5, Houston 1
Why not just change first base, make it wider/flatter rather than add an additional base?
Wouldn't your injury have happened even with the current safety base?

I was at the game and of course my eyes were on the play at home plate. I get that Hayden rolled her ankle at first, but I just don’t understand why she was called out.
I rewatched it on ESPN later and they speculated that she turned towards second and was tagged out, but I don’t remember the ball going back to first base at all. She was lying way outside of the first base line, not in the field of play. It doesn’t seem like she turned towards second.
Of course, the important thing is, hopefully she’s ok, but I was just wondering, what did Jay say on the radio about why she was called out?

Actually, that was what I was thinking a safety base was. Something more along the lines of home plate.
