White team leading UL World Series 1-0
<blockquote><p align=justify>LOUISIANA La. — The White team takes a 1-0 lead into tonight’s second game of Louisiana's 8th annual Fall Red-White World Series, a contest scheduled for 6 p.m. at Moore Field.
The White squad took a 12-6 win in Wednesday night’s opener of the best-of-five series, with veteran Kraig Schambough picking up the pitching win and his squad scoring eight runs in the sixth inning.
Schambough pitched five innings, scattering seven hits and fanning five while allowing two runs. Redshirt freshman Jeremy Whipple took the loss for the Red squad after giving up three hits, three walks and four earned runs after relieving starter Kevin Ardoin to start the bottom of the sixth. Ardoin had kept the White team in check through five allowing just three hits while fanning four.
Third baseman Dallas Morris had three hits and scored twice to lead the White unit in the opening win. Philip Hawke had three hits including a homer for the Red squad.
There is no admission. Game three is scheduled Saturday at 2 p.m.

White lead Vermilion 2-1 in Cajun World Series
<blockquote><p align=justify>LOUISIANA La. — Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun baseball team continued its annual Vermilion-White Fall World Series Saturday afternoon at Moore Field, with the White team taking an early lead and holding on for a 9-7 victory.
The win gave the White unit a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series, with game four set today at 2 p.m. A fifth game, if necessary, would be part of a doubleheader today.
Ian Pecoraro picked up Saturday’s win for the White.
The White team scored four runs off Jeff Martinez to take a 4-2 lead after four innings of play. A two-run double by Jason Rodriguez highlighted a three-run fourth inning.
Pecoraro held the Vermilion team to two runs (one earned) on two hits through four innings and left the game with the White team in front 5-2.
The White team added three more runs in the sixth. Justin Merendino plated two runs with a double to right field.
to give the White team an 8-3 lead, and later added another RBI.
Merendino picked up his third RBI of the game with a two-out double off Collins in the seventh inning to extend the White lead to six runs at 9-3.

White Team Holds On For Game Three Win
<blockquote><p align=justify><b>Takes 2-1 Fall Series Lead</b>
LOUISIANA La. - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team continued with game three of the annual Vermilion-White Fall World Series here from M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field here Saturday afternoon as the White team defeated the Vermilion team 9-7 to take a 2-1 lead in the best of five game series.
The White team bats scored four runs off Vermilion team starter Jeff Martinez to take a 4-2 lead after four innings of play. A two-run double by Jason Rodriguez highlighted a three-run fourth inning against Martinez.
White team starter Ian Pecoraro held the Vermilion team to two runs (one earned), on two hits through four innings and left the game with the White team in front 5-2 in the fifth inning.
The White team added three more runs in the sixth off Vermilion reliever Jeremy Collins. Justin Merendino plated two runs with a double to right field to give the White team an 8-3 lead.
Merendino picked up his third RBI of the game with a two-out double off Collins in the seventh inning to extend the White lead to six runs at 9-3.
The Vermilion team mounted a seventh inning rally by scoring two runs against White reliever Ben Belanger. Phillip Hawke picked up a RBI on a sacrifice fly that scored Justin Bourque from third with the first run and Micah Cockrell scored from third on a wild pitch later in the inning to cut the deficit to 9-5.
Vermilion team reliever Tim Hazelwood held the White team hitless in the eighth and ninth innings to hold the deficit at four runs.
With the Vermilion team down to its last three outs Justin Bourque led off the ninth inning against reliever Chris King with a double off the right field wall. Micah Cockrell followed Bourque’s hit with a triple to left field that made it a three run game. Cockrell scored from third on Phillip Hawke’s second sacrifice fly of the game to put the tying run in the on-deck circle with just one out.
King then settled down to record the save by getting seniors Kevin Preau and Ryan Core to fly out for the final outs of the game.
Ian Pecoraro picked up the win for the White squad, while Jeff Martinez suffered the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) over 4.1 innings for the Vermilion team.
The offensive leaders for the White team included left fielder Alex Preciado who went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, and shortstop Justin Merendino with two hits and three RBI’s. Merendino leads all players with six RBI’s in three games.
The 2003 Ragin’ Cajuns Fall World Series will conclude with game four at 2 p.m. on Sunday. If necessary game five will be seven innings and will follow immediately after game four. The White team leads the best of five game series 2-1 heading into Sunday.
