Damon Mason jersey being retired also seems a little much to me also, but I must say he is my all time favorite UL defensive player. Small but back it up and let the other team know it. He did make 3rd team all American I believe.

I honestly think Stokley was trying to fill the void of tradition in recent memory with the retired numbers in hopes of lighting a fire and creating an aura of pride and a following. It's my guess that Stokley is responsible for it.
But I really see an ethical problem with the retired number decision. You don't tell Bo Lamar 30 years after the fact that your number or jersey (what honoree wouldn't think they were one in the same) isn't retired any more because later on we decided after that the honor would be limited to 20 years.
I also see a selfish reason to honor the retired number. If the UL basketball program reaches the status of the Bo Lamar days again you want to say that UL basketball excellence has existed for decades.
You just can't do this to the select few larger than life immortals who put your school on the map.
I think Lamar's no. should stay retired. However, it was mentioned that the deal last night was due to a mixup in jersey ordering. Comments on this issue should keep that fact in mind. Seems like a few people missed that aspect with posts made after the info was provided.
If #10 is or were retired shouldn't be on display in the dome somewhere? Or is it already? Isn't that kind of the point in the first place.

Bo Lamar is second ALL-TIME in Career points scored. only behind pistol pete. Neither had a 3-pt line during their time and I believe Bo only played 3 yrs. No way ANYONE should wear number 10 EVER AGAIN! I realize this was a mixup in jersey orders though and as long as it will eventually be fixed, it won't bother me.
I didn't know about the mix-up. Neverthless, this university still intends to re-issue retired numbers that were retired before this "20 year policy" was enacted. I think this policy should be rescinded. In the future, adopt the "Ring of Honor" concept for players of this caliber.
