To that end, nothing happens academically without advertising.
Nothing.

Most universities are like what you’re saying, but winning is very important for the formula in marketing the university. Enrollment for schools like Alabama and Colorado have shown tremendous recent increase due to the marketing of their football programs which leads to more revenue and opportunity cost through donors.

It doesn't have to be one or the other. We can have great academic success and great athletic success at the same time. We can emulate a university like Michigan rather than LSU.

True but has to start somewhere. A lot of athletic donors are steered towards donating to academics.
One of the schools greatest supporters made his first donation ever, to athletics.
Ambassador Caffery... before he was Ambassador.

I will repeat my post under App Attendance. It seems relevant here. Universities with highly successful athletics, particularly football, get major boosts in enrollment, attendance and donations (academic and athletic). National prominence in football gives rise to national attention to overall success of the university. UL needs promotion of football on the scale of Hud's promotion, then watch the change in dynamics.
Maybe we need an RCAF Director like Hud to recapture Acadiana. Do we even have an RCAF Director? It is not in Des' personality to be like Hud. Neither was Napier. Both are proof that winning alone does not increase excitement about UL football and related attendance. We need someone to promote UL and get back the excitement we once had under Hud.

Are athletics the only advertising available?
For a university that is trying to establish academics, is it the best advertising?

"A boost in enrollment... "
Is that the only way to boost enrollment?
What kind of students does that boost bring in?
Is that the way that a serious academic institution wants to boost its enrollment?
We have passed up the school with the largest enrollment in the state. We are on the outside looking in, but there is more and more anecdotal evidence, and even some hard evidence to suggest that maybe their priorities aren't all that healthy, and ours are.
