Re: Best bourbon varieties?
If you have the time, go do the Bourbon Tour! We did 12 distilleries in 7 days. HEAVEN!! My favorite though is Four Roses Private Selection (can only get at the distillery). Other than that, I like Bookers.

Blanton's is Ok but its not worth the money especially if you go to a store with a good selection. You can get really good selections in the $50-$70 bottle range that are honestly better or just as good for sure.

I'm a fan of Angel's Envy. Buffalo Trace is a great inexpensive bourbon. I like Jefferson's Ocean but it's pricey.
A very underrated bourbon is Calumet. It's about $55 at Total Wine. Very smooth.
But, my opinion, dollar for dollar the best bourbon out there is Eagle Rare. You can't always find it, but whenever you do, you should buy a bottle and stock up. EXCELLENT.
What does a bottle of the Eagle Rare run?
Re: Best bourbon varieties?
Around $28 in Lafayette. I nephew told me it's around $40 in Houston.
Re: Best bourbon varieties?
Everyday sipper: Elijah Craig small batch, Old Forester 100, Knob Creek 9 year
Barrel proofs at fairly reasonable prices: Old Forester 1920 or Jack Daniels SBBP
I also like the 4 roses single barrel a lot.
Also Eagle Rare if you can find it.
Re: Best bourbon varieties?
go to Marcellos give them a price range and ask them what they recommend, they have never steered me wrong
Re: Best bourbon varieties?
I stick to family- Basil Hayden.

Not a bad one . Reminds me of 1792 brand. Back end fire takes getting used too.
Re: Best bourbon varieties?
I like most all bourbons and haven't really had a "bad" one. I just find it hard to spend more than $40 for a bottle. That being said, my favorites are Noble Oak, Eagle Rare, Jefferson's Ocean, and Weller aged 12 year that I bought once for a special occasion. After a couple pours I find they all go down pretty much the same, LOL.

Basil Hayden is my personal go to. Smooth with a sweet finish. Doesn’t suck to pair it with a nice stogie either.
