Re: UL vs. Nichols State Baseball
If Marze can get his control together and develop a killer strikeout pitch he will be one hell of a closer. He was in the mid 80's with the fastball.
I always did like Bowman. He struck out alot when he played last year, but he is the best at working the count and getting walks. Early last year, with all the strikeouts, he walked more than he struck out.
I think we will all enjoy watching opposing teams slide on the turf. The first Nicholls runner would have ended up in left field if he doesn't hit the bag with his knee.
And there starter threw a good game. He will give alot of teams headaches this year.
Of course, I believe Nicholls will struggle the rest of the weekend because of depth and the traveling.

Exactly. The guy threw a great ball game, and should be commended. That withstanding, I thought, like someone said earlier, we were over swimming the first half of that game.
I don't remember who it was, maybe KO or Fuse, but someone was hauling tail to third, and started their slide 15 ft from the bag; literally coasted into 3rd safely. It was kind of funny; looked unnatural. I will say that I don't necessary like the carpet. I much prefer the natural grass and dirt.. oh well.
Marze. Marze has the potential to blossom into a gamer. Big kid, nice arm. He needs to learn to be consistent, which will come with experience and maturity. I also thought he looked to be in the upper 80's rather than lower to mid. He had a nice hook going last night once he settled in. Hopefully he can make that the jugular pitch.

If you were quoting the radar gun that has been used at Moore Field in the past, this is a slower radar gun. I also wonder when the last time it has been calibrated. Scouts usually use the gun that picks up the speed of the ball as it exits the hand ... at minimum the average speed ... as opposed to the velocity of the ball at the end of its flight.

The one I quoted was the gun at the Tigue so that would put him in the high 80's to low 90's.
Another thought for this season. How about those socks? I like them!

I love them also. I used to wear a pair of maroon ones during warm-up in high school. It was not a part of our official uniform so I could not wear them for the game.
I have a pair of red ones that we wore a couple summers ago in our adult league baseball. When it warms up, I might start wearing them to the game. I would wear them now but you would not be able to see them under my jeans. :D BigEd .. Are you with me?

Very Classic look. Of course, I'll always have a soft spot for the pin stripe vests, with the vermillion shirt under because of the clemson CWS game, but other than those, I think the classic white with 'Louisiana' across the chest and the Boston looking sox are my favorite!

The Cardinals wear those now.
