Re: Banned by Police from Cajun Field
Yep the good ole "pecan patrol". They can't even tell you where to park at football or baseball games...but they sure can tell you that you can't enter the stadium to look at the new field. It's a shame that the university's own "rent a student cop" program can't force them to be fans of their own employer. To quote the immortal Rob Halford of Judas Priest..."Breakin' the law, breakin' the law", keep on admiring the new field turf, we as fans deserve it too!
Re: Banned by Police from Cajun Field
I go every other day and sometimes every day and never had a problem. Just today two UP drove up while I was taking pictures and the only thing out of their mouth was "It's looking great", and wanted to know when I thought it might be finish....I guess they were two of the good one's......
Re: Banned by Police from Cajun Field
I actually got to see the field on two separate occasions while they were taking the turf up. Cops kind of gave me a hard time once, but it was for a project so they backed off. It was definitely a surreal and almost sad feeling seeing the field coming up. I am glad they are changing it, but seeing the field that I grew up with being taken up within days of my graduation was definitely a moment that I will not soon forget. Getting closer every day to Cajun Football Season. The day can't come soon enough.

He took my gun apart and proceeded to dry fire it making comments like "dang that trigger has a short throw." After searching and finding nothing he felt it necessary to flex his UL Police Muscle. He asked to see my student ID and let me know that the next stop would be jail. He accused me of stealing the nice round signs at the gates. I figure that there has to be something better for the UL rent-a-cops to be doing.
I wonder what the athletic department would think about someone getting arrested for that.
Perhaps we could get Meche's to set up a shop on campus to distract them.
Wow, I guess they get together and decide exactly what they are going to do in these situations cause this is spot on.
Im not going to stop going out to look at the field, im just going to have to watch when i go. Im willing to bet it will be just any other cop the next time though, this guy sounded like he had never heard of the project
Re: Banned by Police from Cajun Field
I think the campus cops probably over reacted in this case, but a few years ago they did get hammered (on this forum) for not providing security at Tigue Moore Field when all of the computer equipment got stolen (twice.) Then they got criticized again when the medallion was stolen off of the football stadium fence... (does anyone really believe that thing was really worth 2400 as was stated in the media )
Maybe they are just a little hyper sensitive these days.

According to the first post it was near dusk. It is totally reasonable for them to see what he was up to, and confirm his identification. It is totally unreasonable to insist on inspecting the interior of his vehicle, and threats of arrest. Common sense will tell you people will be milling about when gates are open, and you have a new project going on.
These two guys clearly were out of line, or the poster was a lot more aggressive towards the police than his post suggests. IMO he should have contacted the head of the campus police and filed a complaint. We need not fear intimidation by bad cops.

I agree the manner in which he was treated was out of line. But it is good at least to see they are out there checking to make sure no vandelism occurs. We had too many times in the past when things occured and the UP was no where to be found.

I had no problem with him checking to see what I was up to, obviously that is his job. As for how I reacted? I am a very genuinely laid back guy and I don't get angry or sarcastic, especially to my superiors. I explained my reason for being there as descriptively as possible and he just didn't buy it. He was far more cocky and aggressive than he needed to be and it seemed like he was upset to find out that I had a clean record, when I would try to talk to him he would interrupt and just disregard whatever I was saying. I was never disrespectful in any way. Even while simply explaining myself and turning to point to the field he was getting hot "Stand back! Stand back!" like I was wielding a sword or something. I was pretty upset with the whole ordeal. I'm over it now, I actually went back to the field today, just at a little earlier of a time.
He was not a UP by the way, he was a city police.

They may have gotten the message. I went last night and a city cop was pullling out while I was going through the gate in my truck. He just waved at me.
