I really wish there was a way we could tell Coach Robe to not give in to UNO getting a home game out of this. Can any of you big wigs that go to the Diamond Club meetings ask coach about what the chances are of us just nixing this game off completely? It seems like the smart thing to do.
Like Brian said, it could drop us 10 spots. Imagine at the end of the year if we have an RPI of 60 and without the UNO game we could be at 50... that's a huge difference when it comes to getting a Regional Invite.

Yep. Meant to say .7
Re: Cajuns RPI sitting very nice so far...
It seems as though we've dropped a few spots already. UTSA lost 2 out of 3 to Tulane and for the time being dropped out of the top 50. As far as the UNO game goes, Robe may just want our team to play every given opportunity. An RPI hit may not be as valuable as experience. It sucks, but somehow I can see that as his logic. I may be wrong though.
Re: Cajuns RPI sitting very nice so far...
In reality...if postseason is important...RPI is more important than playing a terrible UNO team from which nothing can be gained or learned. Jmo

I agree with you, but I just think Rob's mentality is play every game that's on the schedule. A coach's typical answer to the question "do you know where you're ranked?" is usually "no." Their focus is simply on winning, especially at this point in the season. Again, I may be wrong but I don't think he'd ask to cancel a game because it's an RPI hit.
Either way, it's a fun rank to follow and when you're having a season like we are thus far, it's really fun.
Re: Cajuns RPI sitting very nice so far...
Four or five years ago, I remember Robe saying just that. He also had a history of downplaying the importance of midweek games. Then the following year, he acknowledged on a talk show the importance of the RPI. If he has forgotten that, someone needs to remind him. RPI may determine whether a team makes or doesn't make the tournament.
We must schedule smart. Scheduling such a dismantled program is just not a smart move.

I don't know how much you converse with Robe but I think you owe it to him and this program to make sure he knows how big of an RPI hit he's going to get if he plays this game. We're going to be fighting for an at-large spot this year. This could be devastating to our chances.

Average Adjusted OWP (Sun Belt opponents): .5346
Average Unadjusted OWP (Sun Belt opponents): .6005 (Used in 2012 RPI)
I would say that the Sun Belt is doing OK overall (certainly better than 2012, which was a bad year for the Sun Belt ... but similar to 2011). But not nearly as good as some folks think because they are looking at WP alone (which has been good).
Actually, it seems that the 2013 formula will simply use opponent's WP and not opponent's Adjusted WP when determining OWP for a given team. Hence, the .6005 average OWP thus far for Cajun Sun Belt opponents is very good.

Fortunately, UTSA dropping out of the Top 50 tier does not hurt the Cajuns this year. Thankfully the RPI bonus system has been scrapped.
