They know what Lafayette has to offer in the realm of food, entertainment, and nightlife so they've always wanted us to host one. I think by getting the stadium accomplished, we're gold.
Well I'll correct. The NCAA doesn't care about our food, entertainment etc. Number one is you have to have the RPI ranking. No cutoff per se but you aren't hosting with an RPI in the fifty range. Two and most important is geography. The committee is tasked with keeping travel to a minimum so whatever accomplishes that goal is king. The biggest issue for us is the proximity of LSU. Just by nature of an SEC schedule they will usually have a strong RPI. So with a decent season you are looking at another school fifty miles away in a position to host. I don't see any scenario where South Louisiana host two regionals. So it is important that seasons end we have an RPI that is at least in the same neighborhood as LSU to garner a host spot.

But that just shows what I was mentioning. Although it would be great to be ranked 5th or whatever (nice for fan excitement...nice for recruits to notice), I much prefer just WINNING...and letting the rankings just take care of themselves.
The ONLY thing I am eyeing right now is winning enough to have an RPI high enough to host. My prediction is that if we host we go to the WCWS.
It is early, and several of our opponents are much better than their records indicate at this point in time (Hofstra, Winthrop, etc.) ... but the Cajuns have an OWP of .4947.
Once some of these teams work into the meat of their schedule (against lesser opponents), this will fix itself.

For us dense Cajuns, please explain OWP again? :-)

Opponent's winning percentage
Re: Cajuns Softball moves up to 12th in latest poll
Opponents win percentage. OOWP is opponents' opponents win percentage, just in case that's referenced.

... and it is the key to the RPI. Since it represents 50% of the formula, you want to craft your schedule in such a way that it maximizes your OWP. Your opponent's RPI rank (and RPI itself) is considerably less important than your opponent's WP (or your OWP), except in the case where bouses and penalties are relevant.

To confirm Brian, the formula is basically
RPI = .25(WP) + .5(OWP) + .25(OOWP) + bonuses - penalties
