Re: Meanwhile, Cajuns have the best basketball team in LA
"Now Coach just needs to get Dion Brown's son to commit!" I second this quote!

It's an interesting debate as to what is better, two big time guys and role players or the depth we have this year. If this years team is going to get it done they will have to overcome a few "Dynamic Duos" in this league like Hervey/Neal at UTA, Brown/Smith at GA Southern, and Person/Varnado at Troy.
I sometimes imagine what might have been if Marlin would have had Payton and Long together as upper classmen.

IMO two dynamic players with adequate support outdoes a team stroger and deeper without a real pairing of NBA players. I'm doubting anyone's got that in this years SBC.
I'd take the 2014 team over this one in a three game series. Anything can happen in a one game match, thus March Madness.

Merry Christmas Bob Marlin we'll be in attendance pretending any games in January and February matter. Still we all know for you and the Cajuns, Christmas comes three days in March.

I saw him each of the last two nights. That tournament was loaded with good teams and he absolutely stood out as the best player in the tournament. He has a strong build and is athletic. Handles it and shoots it well. Also pretty good defensively. Good get for sure.

Been that way for decades...Of the 6 NCAA appearances from Fletcher thru Marlin, only ONE also won the regular season championship. 1992. All got the automatic invite for winning the conference tournament.

I tried to find a box score of the championship game but could not. I do know Madison Prep defeated LCA by a score of 61 to 53 in that game. I think MP had a big fourth quarter comeback in the game. As far as Dion Brown's son is concerned, he did not sign in the early period and we are still listed as one school he is considering for the April signing period. I don't remember the other schools he is considering are but I do know they are major programs.

That is true for over 90 percent of the mid majors in the country. Of course the regular season conference games matter as they determine the seeding for the tournament. A stated goal for the team is to win the regular season championship.

MP had a comeback to beat U High Friday night. They led LCA pretty much throughout, had a 10 point lead at half. LCA got it down to 4 late, but MP was way too big and dominated the glass.
Haven't seen the box either but Julien scored the majority of MPs points in the first half. If I had to guess, I'd say he probably had 18-20 for the game.

I think Brad Boyd's 2004 team won the regular season and the tournament. The 2005 team was also up there. Does not matter as none of our tournament teams since Bobby Paschal would have received at large bids. The 1983 team of Bobby Paschal got an at large but would not do so today.
