Our record is 3-7 taking out exhibition games (we are reporting it as 5-7 for some reason). Our losses are by an average of 14 points. To make our team look better than they are UL Sports information is including the statistics from all the games. They are even reporting a scoring differential of +4. Steals per game are reported as 8.1 for us and 5.8 for our opponents. Our shooting percentage is .451 when we are nowhere near that against "real teams".
It's time that we start to ask out athletic administration to look at the facts. They made a mistake with Coach Marlin. He is a very nice man. I'm sure he treats his players well. We gave him a raise because expectations were that he was going to bring us a great team. He has an NBA first round prospect on the team and we are still losing by double digits, and our last two games by 20.
Some people on this thread were asking us to wait until further into the season to start asking for the coaching staff to "walk the plank". Now I'm asking for the Athletic Administration to join them on the "plank". If we are in a position where football will be on probation, our record expectations for them for the next couple years will join the football team at a below .500 level.
So what is the difference between our men's athletics now and the Pre-Hud/Marlin days? Now we are paying much more for our bad teams. So is it time to start holding Scott Farmer responsible for our current basketball/football/NCAA violation status?
But but but but it's so hard to win road games or it's a young team or it's early in the season or we're playing for the conference tournament or the other team had a career shooting night or.......

The narrative will be, like every year: This is a one-bid league, and the season boils down to winning 3 games in the conference tourney....

It would be fun to enjoy the entire season.

So we basically play 20+ exhibition games?

It makes it easier to spin that we STILL have all our goals in front of us.....
Re: Is Bob Marlin's seat even starting to warm up?
Could we not pay $100,000 or less to a coach and get the same or better results than we are getting from Bob Marlin?
How many local coaches would love to take our team at a pay scale of $50,000 plus $10,000 per win? We'll give him a $50,000 bonus for a Sunbelt championship, a second $50,000 bonus for a Sunbelt Tournament Championship. We'll give him another $50,000 bonus for a win in the NCAA tournament!!!
Base Pay = $ 50,000
20 wins = $200,000
SB Champ= $ 50,000
Tourn ch. = $ 50,000
1 game = $ 50,000
Total pay = $400,000
I bet every high school coach in a 50 mile radius of Lafayette would sign up for that deal! Could we not do better than Marlin offering this basic pay deal and save money???

---Wow this does seem pretty performance based to me---yes it can get into some big numbers and some seem to be easily attained ----but a bad year can take some bucks away from the household finances!!!
