Who do you see being the Nola area recruiter on this staff?

He may be. George Munoz brings much more experience as OC, WR, and QB coach. Considering the offensive side of the ball will have a former OC and head coach as an analyst to go along with the experience Munoz and Leger bring we will be fine there. We definitely need Lamar to be a home run because the coaches are definitely a lot younger on that side of the ball.

Jorge was definitely a great addition to the staff.

That's going to be interesting because Morgan has been great in North Louisiana at Houston and Vanderbilt. And he does well in East Texas as well.
Scott is okay in North Texas and in Baton Rouge. If you are replacing Juluke in New Orleans with a minority coach on the staff to me its Burris. But I don't have a clue.

So Morgan and Neighbors will both coach safety?

Morgan will be the DC. He could also coach safeties and move Neighbors. Those guys are very capable of moving positions at this level. The RB Coach was a TE and WR analyst in the past. To my knowledge never worked with RBs before.

Move neighbors where? From my understanding all defensive positions are filled.

I didn’t look position by position. In that case Morgan will coordinate the D and Neighbors will stay with safeties. I’d assume.

Burris coaches CB, so Morgan could coach Safety/DC and Neighbors could move to OLB. Just tossing that out.

We already have a OLB coach.

……guess I preface this with the fact that some coaches are better than others at analytics, recruiting, field or tape coaching…….however when they hit the field for practice after the cognitive part has been taught, all will be on the same page…..every tech, block, step, pass, reception, tackle, etc…….We have I would presume every practice over the last 4 years that every coach will study in detail along with tapes of games etc….. and there have been some real screw ups and damn lucky wins through the Nap years that need to be corrected…..and one other thing, who wouldn’t want to get on a staff headed by Des??? Many will be applying for the various positions still to be filled……the ones chosen will come in with an attitude and desire for great results….. Troy W is as valuable at his position as any school in the country might have, and what an absolute great teammate for the staff…..we can use everything we want from the past success and improve with some new Blood….Geaux Cajuns!

Re: Football Staff specULation
So I'm trying to keep track, is this correct?
Head Coach/QB - OUT Napier; In Des
OC/WR - No Change Leger (Des is not Co-OC anymore, but Des assumes playcalling duties)
OL - No Change Jeff Norid
Asst. OL - Out Stepleton; In Bryant Ross
RB - Out Juluke; In Bergeron
TE - Out Des; In Munoz
DC/OLB - Out Toney; In Morgan
DL - No Change Segrest
ILB - No Change Scott
CB - No Change Burris
S - No Change Neighbors (Maybe Neighbors and Lamar switch positions)
Strength Out Hocke; In Neighbors
Thoughts? There aren't any "wow" hires. But I'm not worried about that. We won't know whether hires are good or bad until games are played. It seems overall that the staff has become less experienced, both in time and locations. Munoz should help Des tremendously on offensive side. By all accounts, Toney was a rising star on the defensive side of the ball, so let's hope Lamar can fill those shoes. I've heard a lot of good things about Bergeron. Hopefully, someone can pick up the slack recruiting in NOLA, because I think that's critical to our program.
My hope is that what these guys may lack in experience, they'll make up for in grinding and hard work.
Off field staff will be extremely important hires now.

Munoz is a wow hire for me. He will be much more seasoned since his first stint here gaining experience at Baylor and lsu. He was very involved in the passing game coordination the year that joe B. won the heisman. Should be great for young coach des to have on staff.
As for off the field having a seasoned guy like Matt Viator staying on to lead that group will be huge. That is a guy that has been an OC and head coach. Another good person for mike to consult with.

Re: Football Staff specULation
I went from hoping Napier does well to I hope they finish .500 every year. This is just getting stupid.

Two things:
1. By all accounts, things were much worse when he got there than he imagined. Getting to .500 will be a stretch next season.
2. Depending on when Texas and Oklahoma move over, the current reasoning is that Alabama and Auburn will move the the SEC East. All of sudden that becomes a much tougher division than it currently is. Still think Napier will deliver way past .500, but winning the SEC East will be a heckuva lot more difficult.

So I guess Napier doesn’t have connections either?
