Yes he happened to be a really really good baseball player but that is not my point. I've known Blake since he was in the diapers. Growing up even in a small town like Kinder, he was never the biggest, fastest or strongest guy but he was great at everything he did and he did it 150%. This gave him a slight chip on his shoulder, just enough to bust his ___ but not enough to give him an attitude or make excuses. He played every sport the town had to offer and he excelled at them. He was Quarterback and defensive back for a very good football program in high school, he was track star as well all while being a straight A student. He was highly coachable, even though he was that much better than everyone around him. He was the epitome of an "athlete. A "grinder' and a "leader" and the kind of kid we should be recruiting….

We just have a different view on what a "baseball player" vs Athlete is, we will have to just agree to disagree on that.
Re: Wally Pontiff Classic vs LSU Preview | The Grind
I'm starting to accept the reality that the only thing that will get this team into the post-season is winning the conference tournament. Sad - with all this talent on paper. Ashame that it will all come down to a few days in May. We had so much higher expectations on this team. Cajuns have been P1$$ poor in the mid-week which is extremely important for earning an at-large. Oh well.
I do think Gunner and D-Mo will be back with Guillory. Would love to see Marks back, but I guess it will depend on where he is drafted.
Hoping the Cantrelle kid makes it to UL... He should be our full-time SS next year from what I understand - I guess with Kasuls sliding over to 2B.
Monica? Anyone have any idea or feeling on his draft status?

I believe his draft status has fallen. I haven't spoken to any scouts, but his bat had a lot to do with where he was drafted in addition to his good defense. He is not a plus arm by pro standards. There is probably still interest, but I doubt at a higher level than last year. I think he would be wise to come back and show the scouts he can mash D1 pitching.

I have to unfortunately agree... That 2000 team is always one I'll remember... not for talent but for the attitude and swagger.. Nate Nelson would not allow the team to play music in the locker room when they went through a small slump.... Mazziati (sp?) throwing people out off of his knees.... Nelson again telling the team we are walking in the FRONT gate in S.C. in the supers.... those guys would not have accepted mediocrity....
Still not giving up

Thurman was more of an offensive threat than Monica is.

As a matter of fact, we only have 3 guys who are batting over .300 for the year and one of them (Lott) doesn't play every day and 1 guy slugging over .500 and he's our leadoff hitter.
I don't care how well you pitch, if you hit like _______ then you're not going to win.
Just wait till next years lineup... hint it's not going to be better.

Wonder if Deggs would consider coming back as co head coach for a couple years with the understanding that he would get the job after Robe decides to hang it up...? Like Kittrell did with Calvi at South Alabama - to transition... Not sure when this could/would take place. Just a thought.
I was giving JT the benefit of the doubt, but I've seen the light. Changes are needed.

I see Deggs being a head coach at larger school in Texas (or Rice) before this could happen, then it will probably be too late.

You know this is a message board and everyone has a right to an opinion... I've heard nothing of Robe wanting to hang it up and if anyone suggests a change is needed... well I'll just not comment further... geez

Interesting that the Advertiser reports that replays showed Monica was safe at home in the 4th inning. Says replays showed LSU catcher never tagged him. Not sure if Monica was sent home or not but replays showed he was safe anyway and the call was blown by the home plate umpire.
