A good abbreviation is as good as an acronym.

UL is illegal and will always be fought by ULM, La Tech and LSU. So, do we use just an L, LU, LA, or something else? I love UL, but it will never gain statewide or national traction. How long do we play this insane name game? Louisiana is locked in. What is our acronym?
LA

---I didn't like it initially but starting to favor ULA...
Re: Alden Report Released by University of Louisiana Athletics
Finally had the opportunity to thumb through this thing..
The specific personnel evaluations are not included in this version of the report, so take that into consideration.
I'd personally like to thank Mike Alden and his staff for spending time reading RP and it's many fine posters for valuable input in their report. This is quite literally a condensed "thread" of everything we've discussed, complained and warned about for 10 years here, on this forum. It's pretty unbelievable actually.
But seriously, the "don't put this plan on the shelf" comment is so multi-layered in meaning. First and foremost, we have to go out and find an Athletic Director that can handle this kind of undertaking. We are severely, SEVERELY lacking at this position and have been for a really long time. So implement the correct leadership and then, and only then, can we proceed with our future endeavors.
For anyone saying that we are financially disadvantaged with our current economic state: Let me remind you of Mr. Warren Buffet's strategy of investing -- "When people are buying, be fearful. When people are fearful, be buying." The time is now. Excuses and difficulties be damned.
Have we been under staffed? Sure we have. But how LONG have we been understaffed? I can absolutely hold our administration accountable for not addressing a major issue that has plagued our growth in athletics for this amount of time! If you need people, FIGURE IT OUT. It's been said many times here; put the football stadium suites (that you can't sell anyway) on the back-burner for now, endow athletic scholarships; then use the money that's currently being allocated for that to staff a full, functioning athletic department.
I was a little disappointed in the 'LARC' suggestion. I think we can do better than that.
It's now all on the Prez.
Re: Alden Report Released by University of Louisiana Athletics
ULA is a better acronym than ULL and LARC IMO.

---One thing I didn't like too much (now it could just be the New Orleans in me) but every game is Mardi Gras---Is he working for the Greenies also? Seems like a better fit!!!
Re: Alden Report Released by University of Louisiana Athletics
The name is a big issue... but if we somehow miraculously got the name tomorrow, and failed to follow through on the rest of the recommended actions in the report, all we will have done is gotten a name we like on our athletic tombstone.
And if we follow through with the rest of the report, the name will cease to be an important issue, because people will call us what we want, or we will be so happy with our success that we don't care about the name any more..
