Re: Campus Construction
New Baker hall on 6-18-11. A precast double "T" floor slab section is being delivered for the parking garage. Less and less material and storage units on this part of the site. They are starting to complete the drainage culverts and inlets. You can really see the difference between the cleaned and uncleaned brick work.

Cleaning the brick veneer. Note the arches at the entrance. They will be placing concrete for the entry porch soon and then placing decorative columns around the steel in the foreground. The decorative columns are stored on site.

They will be building out the middle section and the west section together because the crane won't have enough room to swing.

There it is. the guy on the manlift is waiting for them to attach and brace so he can remove the rigging. He's not crazy as he has a parasol rigged up for some shade. It was prety hot out there today.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/64129854@N04/5847397564/" title="next-piece4 by cpsengineering, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5063/5847397564_4bbfcbd658.jpg" width="402" height="500" alt="next-piece4"></a>
It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to rig and place a section. The trucks don't hang around long as there is not much room for them. The driver gets out of the truck only to secure tie downs and blocking. They didn't take time to go to the can.

Re: Campus Construction
I have been going on a nightly walk on campus for years. I use the stairs on the Taft Street parking garage for a little extra work. That's how I found the vantage point for the photos I have been taking. Tonight I did the usual walk and when I got to the top of the Taft street parking garage stairs, I noticed that the railing had been hit by one of the concrete sections as they were swinging it into place. It wasn't too bad but I'm sure it got their attention. I was wondering if that was going to happen because they were getting pretty close on Saturday.

Rigging down the crane used to erect the parking garage. Not much of anything else on the storage yard. I would suspect they will be cleaning up next week. They are placing a new job shack on University avenue to replace the one seen here. D Day for move in is August 11 less than 6 weeks from today.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/64129854@N04/5894311139/" title="rigging-down by cpsengineering, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6030/5894311139_8f8f2cbe9a.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="rigging-down"></a>
Now that the crane is being moved out they won't require as much room to work. They have promised the band director the field for August 11. I have been told that it will be sodded and sprinkled.
