Naming LA Tech

see we all got alot of the same problems. The University of Mississippi wants to be called Ole Miss and they wanna have Col. Rebel as their mascot, but most folks call em mississippi and they got a stupid bear now. Guess thats why we came to a decision to call them "The School Up North" and the Rebears. If they can change their name so can we. lol

Nope. I read the complete history. Tulane has not been "The University of Louisiana" for well over 100 years.

ok .. well the university of louisiana at lafayette is not the same thing as the university of louisiana .. .

They have just as much IF NOT MORE right to that name as we do ..

We are U L L .. Lafayette is a great city - we shouldn't be ashamed to say it ... lets just get over it and move on.

just like Loyola University of Louisiana and Xavier University of Louisiana. it's just used to denote what state it is located in since there is more than one of that named institution throughout the US. also, are you sure you want to use Wikipedia as a strong academic source for your argument???? if so you might want to go back to high school or take a refresher 101 class at The University of Louisiana and maybe you will learn something

I just said that Wiki had some good info on the topic ... I never said that it was the definitive piece of work on the subject ...

I would love to go back to school but unfortunately I can not find an address for The University of Louisiana ...

I really have no dog in this fight. I have degrees from both institutions ... I lettered at U L L and it will always hold a special place in my heart .. I just can not get over how this is such a big deal to you people ...

if you say that you cant find an address for the university of louisiana then you are admitting that Tulane does not hold the moniker.

And Northwestern is the Northwestern State University of Louisiana.

How is that different from a couple of dozen LSU's?

Actually they have no right whatsoever. First, when they asked the Legislature to go private, they agreed to change their name.

Second, before we went for the name change, we asked for Tulane's permission, and they gave it to us.

Look up your intellectual property law. Either of those constitutes abandonment of ownership.

I do. they are both The University of Miami. I was stating this as an example as to how schools possessing the same name require the state moniker afterwards to identify them. otherwise there is no way of discerning which is where without investigation

while the example may have been slightly off using the state name as opposed to the city name, the principal of the point is still there. way to be nit-picky since you are losing this fight

You read: <u>"The Tulane" University of Louisiana</u>

I read: "The Tulane University" <i>of Louisiana</i>

You read: <u>University of Louisiana Lafayette</u>

I read: <b>University of Louisiana</b> @<i>Lafayette</i>

No matter how you slice it UL is the <b>University of Louisiana</b>, it's just that some in the city of Lafayette easily get lost and have to cling to geo tracking.

I am exactly who I say I am .. I may not be the rah rah type but I have never stated a lie on this board (except the Viator being the next coach thread - My source - an current student athlete was incorrect). Frankly I have always been rubbed the wrong way by the type of attitude toward U L L that is shared by many on here. I just do not think that there should be this type of division in our supporters.

We are who we are and should be proud of that and always strive to be better... Having delusions of grandeur by some of the base does nothing but hurt the university.

This is a stupid argument that many will say that I lost but I am done with it ...
