There isn't an AD or college President in America stupid enough to hire Ed Orgeron. He's dragging along more baggage than all the carousels combined at Chicago's O'Hare and Atlanta's Hartsfield airports.
I want a coach with a million dollar potential and a $175,000 salary.
The salary is year one base with attainable incentives. Incentives plus salary to peak at $500,000 in year three.
A head coach who has recruited with no budget.
A coach who has had more than two years of JC experience to show he can turn a program around in two years because that is what a JC coach has to do every two years.
If he has that in his background the next stop would be a successful stint at an FCS or DII school.
I'm torn on Coach O, but I lean towards no. His recruiting ability is largely a myth. At Ole Miss, he had some great classes on NSD. However if you look at the rankings when the season started, you'd see that most of the big star recruits never made it on campus.
Even worse, many of the ones that did make it in didn't last long. They either flunked out or quit. Attrition was terrible. In his last class, he didnt even sign a full class, and many of the ones he did sign didn't make the grades. It was like self imposed probation.
He did a good job of scouting the DL, but not so much anywhere else. I can get th actual numbers if anyone is interested, but his recruiting, by and large, wasn't much better than Houston Nutt's.
He does have energy, but it takes more than that. He lost his teams with stupid crap. During a lightning delay, he had his team doing board drills and full contact. We ended up wearing down and losing to Wake Forest because WR ran out of gas. Towards the end, his players quit on him.
He didn't get a great start because there were a lot of folks who wanted to see him fail. But he didnt do himself any favors, either. I just don't think it would be the best thing for the Cajuns.

What scares me is that I keep hearing Orgeron is #1 on the list and I have no idea why. This is a very pivotal hire for this program, I'd rather not see this guy get the job.

Mark Hudspeth - passing game coordinator Miss St. - not something I would want on my resume based on this year's results
Dana Holgorson - offensive coordinator OK St. - only if Gunter Brewer comes as OC(the Man behind the OSU Offensive Curtain)
Ed Orgeron - USC- best drive by shooting potential, will instantly turn the LSU faithful into a skillet full of frenzied flopping fish, the players would love him, and we would have a dominant D
Jim Leavitt - former USF HC - no comment
Jeff Bower - Former USM HC - solid, but may lack the fire that will be needed to fight the fights that need fighting to turn this thing around
Terry Bowden - HC North Alabama - I imagine that he has learned much from his past, he is probably one of our best choices if we can afford him, but he will move on to bigger and better things at the first hint of success
Tommy Bowden - ditto

I am surprised not to hear more about Joe Deforest, Associate Head Coach @ OK State and Cajun Alumni, mentioned thus far. I may have missed it!
What about David Cully or Tyke Tolbert? Both are now in the NFL and have had prior coaching experience here.
I have said it before, and I will say it again. If Orgeron is the next head coach, I will NEVER, repeat, NEVER, set foot in Cajun Field again. I don't care how much he wins, he has been an albatross wherever he has gone. You have to stand on principles at some time in your life, and I refuse to give anymore to UL football if he is the hire.
in regards to Terry Bowden at North Alabama, this is an impressive bio.
"Coach Terry Bowden has compiled a career record of 111-53-2 as a head coach and would rank among the top 12 active Division IA head coaches, with an astonishing winning percentage of 68%. Terry Bowden started his coaching career by building two programs from the ground up. At 26 years old, the youngest head college football coach in the country, he turned around an 0-9-1 Salem College team by winning the WVIA Conference Championship in just his second season, and then repeating as Conference Champions the next year.
Bowden moved on to Samford University, a team that had won a total of just six games in their previous three seasons, going 9-1 in his first season, and setting many national records. He then engineered their move from Division III non-scholarship football all the way to Division I-AA, and within two years was competing for the national championship.
Terry Bowden then became the youngest head college football coach in the country again, when at age 36 he took over at Auburn University. Winning his first 20 straight games, an astonishing feat in the SEC, Bowden went on to win 73% of his games at Auburn.
After a 10 year career broadcasting college football for ABC, ESPN, and Westwood One, as well as writing for Yahoo! Sports and Rivals.com, Coach Terry Bowden has gone back to his passion coaching college football. As the new head coach at the University of North Alabama, Coach Bowden has joined an elite football program with a proven staff, committed to winning championships."
Also Leavitt and Bower would be impressive hires if we could get them
To those of you discounting Hudspeth and pushing Terry Bowden......
That of course includes Bowden AND Larry Blakeney for that matter.Quote:
In his first six seasons at UNA, Hudspeth has posted the best record of any previous Lion head coach in their first seven years leading the Lions to a 66-20 mark

That is impressive, but the only thing that isnt impressive is his lack of experience in the Div. I (FBS) League. North Alabama isnt even an FCS school but actually Div. II school so it is hard to judge his true abilities.
and Terry Bowden hadnt been there for 7 years so that statistic is irrelevant to comparison
also what years did Larry Blakeney (of Troy Trojans??) HC North Alabama, your claims seem to be a bit false in your direction sir.

I would take Terry Bowden in a New York second, but I just don't understand why he's currently at North Alabama??? Especially after doing so well at Auburn??:???:
He's got the proven experience, the name, and top notch speaking ability.
Terry or Tommy? Because I'm willing to bet Terry won't get a sniff from our administration. Ask youself this, has Bowen been waiting for the right job to come available at UL in the SBC, or could it be most NCAA FBS programs will never give him another chance after what happened at Auburn?
These are my choices in no specific order:
1. one of the Bowden sons.- know how to run an offense that higher skill athletes will gravitate to and our recruiting will improve exponentially.
2. Brian Jenkins- HC at Bethune-Cookman. undefeated currently and runs a quick paced offense similar to that of Oregon. Not a local guy, which i think is a plus personally, but knows how to recruit this area and areas that have skill players.
3. Dana Holgorsen- master mind of the air raid offense at Texas Tech, Houston, and now OK St.
4. Kirby Smart- Defensive Coordinator at Alabama. Been in the Saban defensive system for 5 years and knows how to run a tight defense. I know the defense is Saban's baby but you have to know something about how to run a defense if you're working for Saban.
5. Carl Pelini- Defensive Coordinator at Nebraska. for similar reasons as Kirby Smart.
This according to Wikipedia.
I know we have the RCAF, but we don't have that kind of money.Quote:
On March 11, 2008, Leavitt signed a two-year extension to his original seven-year, $7 million contract that he signed in 2006. The new contract paid Leavitt $12.6 million for the 2008–14 seasons, with an annual starting salary of $1.5 million increasing by $100,000 each contract year.
Also, more on Leavitt
ala Bobby Knight, Mike Leach, etc...Quote:
On January 8, 2010, Leavitt was fired after an investigation by USF officials found that he had struck a player in the locker room during halftime of a game against Louisville the previous November 21. Leavitt claimed he was merely trying to console the player and never struck him. School officials found that Leavitt was not truthful about what happened, and also found that he had interfered with the investigation.
I do like Leavitt's history as a defensive coordinator and the success he had from growing a 1AA program all the way to a BCS conference in ten years at South Florida, but I wonder if UL would take a chance on a coach with that kind of history?
