I entered! Good Luck! Pregnant lady cooking a gumbo....so you know it's going to be good!! **toot toot**
Here's the details from the email.
Thank you for entering the gumbo cookoff for this Saturday's game! Below are some important details to note prior to Saturday:
• Each team will receive a goodie bag, courtesy of Cajun Country Rice. All teams can pick up their bags on Friday from 11am-3pm at the Cox Building (201 Reinhardt Drive) or on Saturday starting at 10am right next to Cajuns Village, located to the right of Russo Park! Anyone on your team can pick up your bag as long as they check in with your team name. The bags include your 8oz judging bowls, which you must have in order to be judged!
• Each team will be assigned a number which will be written on your judging bowls. Do not use any other bowls outside of the ones provided to you.
• Gates 1 and 5 will open at 7am on Saturday. Teams can light their pots starting at 8am!
• There will be 5 judges total, so be advised that you will need a maximum of 40oz of gumbo set aside for judging.
• Entries can be dropped off between 12:30pm-1pm to the judges table, located near Cajuns Village. Judging begins at 1pm SHARP, so do not be late!
• Louisiana Athletics is providing bowls and spoons for the judging portion. If you would like to have fans taste your gumbo during tailgate, you will need to provide your own bowls and spoons.
• The winner will be contacted prior to kickoff with details on when and where to meet to be recognized in game.
• If you have requested a free tailgate spot or purchased a tailgate spot, a Louisiana Athletics representative will be reaching out to you with further information!
All teams are encouraged to spread the word and tag @RaginCajuns in your posts leading up to game day! All questions can be emailed to geauxcajuns@louisiana.edu.
Wasn’t able to hear all the results but congrats to the winners! Hopefully this is the start of many friendly competitions between tailgate spots!
Tailgate smelled amazing today. Gumbo cook off seems like something we should keep around.
Anybody have an idea who won and a list of the types of gumbos cooked? I didn't recognize the people on the jumbotron.
Coach Chris surely won??? no?
This needs to be advertised starting now!! We could have over 100 teams and multiple businesses that would want to compete. I been saying this for years!!!
Have a seperate area like a square call it competition grounds where competition can take place and tents and chairs for ys peasants to gather and try these delicious dishes!!
We could find sponsors like Cajun Country Rice, we could get Best Stop to host a Boudin Competition i mean whatever!!!
Glad i been harping on this idea for years and word is finally coming around on how to make this an event!!
Glad this was a success! Wish I could've made it in time to sample. Got there right at game time, unfortunately. My business partner owns Best Stop in Carencro. Maybe need to talk to him about sponsoring something like this in the future.
