Very 1st post had it right.......Big 10 moving to 9 game schedule next year. Big 10 also not playing divisional anymore......100% rotation for all teams so some years no Ohio State vs Michigan.

Already had 9 Big 10 games on the schedule for 24 prior to the cancellation. Perhaps get a FCS to help with the new coach? Its just odd

Exactly. Maybe I’m being petty, but with us only having about a $30 Million budget and according to some had no choice to hire certain coaches or don’t have AD staff to try X and Y, are we having to fork over $500k?

If Michigan State “suggested it”, why are there reports we backed out? Why wouldn’t Michigan State pay us $500k from their $160+ Million budget if it was their “suggestion”?

Interesting footnote that I posted some years back, I'll repost for the newbies. When the NCAA came up with the 1-A / 1-AA split, we decided to move up. Only 3 Louisiana schools did, UL, Tulane, LSU. (I believe USM is the only other charter member in the 'Belt.) We went to the Southland, asked if we could stay in the conference for all other sports.

They said, "Don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya."

A few years later, Tech decided to move up, asked the Southland if they could stay in the conference in all other sports. They were told, "Sure, pal."

Then a few years later, ULM asked for the same concession. "No problemo."

I have noted before that's it's interesting that UL never really passes our rivals. We just look around, and they're no longer there...

Universal perception at the time of the split was up/down with a void were everyone had been.

Louisiana should be scheduling THREE P5 teams a year.

This may well have been a three party negotiation which in the end got all three what they wanted and in a better position than each was in prior to the negotiations. For discussions sake, possibly the following happened:

1. Mich St wanted a different opponent or maybe needed the date as a result of conference demands and negotiated an out for free conditioned upon Louisiana finding a bigger payday somewhere else.

2. Louisiana found a bigger payday at WV and probably a better opponent in a better weather place for a bigger payday.

3. WV filled the spot with a D1 opponent that may increase the competition on its schedule as opposed to a non D 1 opponent and may be paying about the same.

While these are all assumptions and are with no information from The Bird, it does put out a scenario why each may have gotten better then what the had in the end.
