ZC will be QB1 at some point in time. Is it now, who knows, but I will say this. IF, Ben is out for a couple of weeks and ZC plays well and leads us to wins against Buffalo AND Minnesota, then Des' decision becomes much more difficult, if it is a decision at all.
If Ben is OK to play this week and plays well against Buffalo, then it becomes easier.
From what the kid did last night, it doesn't sound like a tough decision at all. The Jeanie's out of the bottle now & there ain't no putting it back in the bottle. I was only able to listen to the game, but can tell just by the way Jay & Gerald raved about the guy that he's dynamic as hell. So, you either play him, or watch him go elsewhere next season because you were too smart to play him. It's really a no brainer at this point thanks to Mother Nature.
I'm the guy who said he should be on the football field at any position if he wasn't the starting QB. Obviously, by his numbers I was correct although in your own _____ headed way, you will convince yourself that you who have no opinion of your own unless I give it to you, figured out another way to trap me in my web of truth. So go ahead Charlie. Kick the football troll master.

What exactly did they see from Ben in camp? How much of a camp did he have to see exactly how he was leaps and bounds better than zeon? Ben is gone next year. Zeon is your future. This may hurt some feelings, and it's not personal, but NO ONE is coming to pluck Ben or Chandler from us. No one! But you want to sit the guy that you KNOW other teams will want. Unless Ben is far and away better than Zeon, then you run your future out there and let him learn. Ben wont be here next year. We are a young team. I want this kind of talent to learn THIS year! But there's nothing that's gonna convince me that Ben is that far ahead of Zeon. It's painfully obvious who is the more talented QB. It's not even close.
I think Ben is a leader and a quality QB. I think the upside of ZC is huge. But he still has a lot of growing to do. This is a great situation to have if Ben and Zeon and even chandler are healthy.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you keep the guy on the bench that you know other people will want. If you think you can win with Ben then why play ZC and have someone come get him in offseason. I don’t think that’s the whole reason but it definitely played a part.
I wonder if Coach Desormeaux can teach Zeon the art of the fake handoff?
I’ve never seen anyone do it better.
I agree with most of what you posted, but starting someone just because they will probably be your future starter just doesn’t make sense to me. You start the player that gives you the best opportunity to win this game and this season.
Now, does that mean ZC wasn’t the better option, no it doesn’t. I’m just stating how I don’t believe in that strategy at all.
Also, there is one thing I am certain about. Coach Des wants to win. He is not going to start the 22 players he feels gives him the best shot to do that.
I agree. We are playing for now, not the future. However, after watching the UAB game, it creates the argument as to why not start ZC. I think the next week or 2 will be telling how much he's ready to be the man on a week in and week out basis. All I know is he turned that game on its head after he got his jitters out.
Here is my take on ZC and let me preface this with I think this kid could be special. But here is what I see so far.
There were a couple of passes that he should have put less zip on the ball and there were a few he needed to put more zip. Early when he came in, he threw a couple he just threw way to hard, I don't think the receivers were expecting it to come like that. A couple of others he could have put a little more air under them, but those will come in time as he gets more comfortable. The ball definitely comes out different from his hands then both Ben and Chandler. His athleticism is something special, he is a difference maker with his feet. He reminds me in that way of LL1, but more decisive. One of the biggest issues I had with LL1 was when he would run, he would spend more time trying to juke and jive, rather than putting his foot in the ground and going. I don't think that is an issue for ZC, I think when he decides to go, he is a north and south guy who can make moves, but his goal is to get down the field in a hurry. The other thing I love is he appears bigger than his 6'1 listing. I know he is not as tall as Ben, but he runs and appears bigger than he is.
I am also starting to love this WR/TE core group. I think Harvey Broussard, Robert Williams (when healthy), Charles Robertson, Peter Leblanc, Jacob Bernard, Neal Johnson and Terrance Carter can be special, specifically the young guys like Broussard and Williams. I love the running backs group as well. I said that I thought Dre'lyn Washington was the best of the group and I still believe that, but Perry is explosive (he needs to work on ball security), "Bill" Davis is a special player and I love how Kibodi runs, I want this young man to have a special senior year. But this group is deep, I don't love the fumbles we have had, but I think that can get corrected. The OL is looking better and better each week. The D while awful against ODU, has looked really good vs UAB and Northwestern State. And finally, I think our specialist, Almendares, who I posted about on another thread is a real weapon and Thomas Leo has impressed me replacing one of the best punters we have ever had.
Never said that at all. You do understand how film study and game planning works? Right. Defenses won't prepare the same for Zeon as they did for Ben. They had never seen film of Zeon. Defensive game plans will be different with Z in. Which means that Zone read and straight up QB runs won't be as wide open as they were on Saturday.
What my source said, what they saw in camp and lots of last season was one QB who takes care of the ball and doesn't give it to the opposition. The other QB put it in dangerous situation often and threw lots of picks throughout spring and fall camp. The football is the most valued thing on a football field. If you repeatedly give it to the other team that is not good.
He looked good Saturday avoiding that tendency. He had a couple dodgy choices, but a couple where he didn’t force it when he could have.
I know defenses will game plan differently for him and that will have an affect, but we will also have more time to game plan with him. Also the fact defenses will game plan for him means they will be forced to factor his running ability in, so if we are smart we can exploit openings created by that.
I agree….the key for him will be learning when to take risks and when not to. But this guy reminds me of Dez. They knew he could run too…and still couldn’t stop him.
