Basically the point guard of volleyball. She can't play the front row, can substitute freely, is the best ball handler/setter on the team, defensive specialist.
The libero is not generally a setter since she can't set the front row.

It's kind of like changing sides at the end of each quarter in football. Fair playing conditions for both teams in adjusting to the various characteristics of the gym they are playing in. High School used to do this before Covid but now they just stay put.
