We need you at Cajun Field!

The schools who get poached of their former 3-Star recruits have an incredible marketing advantage for the former 5-star recruits who have been riding the bench for two or three years and don't want NIL to spell end of the road for them.

This is where I am. Baseball, softball, volleyball and track. Go all in.
The big money sports are over.

List 5 5 star recruits that want no NIL.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
One of my favorite players. The dude worked really hard over the years and became an asset. Like with Trey, I hate this.
This NIL and portal stuff is grim. But what I'm interested in is how the University and the team react. How do we hold onto players? How do you replace them when they do go? What's that going to look like on the field in the fall?
Adapt or die. We've experienced a long period of being dead and a very short period of relativity and success. No one wants to go back.

What is happening with the NIL and portal issues is that college football needs to become like college baseball.
In baseball, colleges are protected from poaching from above(MLB) due to the draft rules. In football, it is the Wild West where poaching is rampant from above(Elite P5). The call for protection from poaching is growing in the NCAA. They will either fix this issue, or they will destroy the collegiate athletic model.
There are no other outcomes.
The P5 is now just another professional football league.

Yea, I'm out. Tired of taking the high road and golf clapping for these semi-pro kids leaving us in a bind to get their money too. ____ em

That is a question that suffers from myopia.
The answer is, find "former" 5-star players who haven't seen the field and don't want their last check to be a NIL check.

I agree with your premise that there will not be a worry about enough players. However, it puts the level of play at a severe disadvantage. Players with good tape will (for the most part) will move on to greener NIL pastures.
What it means is the G5 will pick up either players who didn't get much playing time at a P5 OR someone who got a chance and didn't impress. Either way, I see it as all G5 programs will be in a continuous development mode, as well as struggling to keep quality depth.
The brand of football will suffer.

I'll try to find/post the link, but by the NCAA's own reporting, 46% of players who enter the portal go unsigned. Don't remember if this is in general or specific to football.
I would assume there is a reason. Or reasons.
BTW, with the investment the Haves are putting into softball, I really fear that we won't be able to hold onto Davis and Allred.
I think this might be beyond football...college sports might be dead.

If we don't put a waiting period on the portal, collegiate sports will be dead.

Considering this mindset the reactions here are very disappointing. Someone plots against your own and the prevailing reaction is “I give up” and “why bother at this point.”

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
The former 5-stars that find themselves riding the bench do not lack skills.
P5 schools will be a bigger talent graveyard than they have ever been.
Ripe for the cheap picking.

Simple, schools like Alabama have 80 of them with two full teams worth of 5-stars riding the bench.
Unless you hit the field, like a Trey Amos, you can't get noticed and your career is over.

I see what you are saying. When they steall our kids that they over looked in the recruiting process, we should take their kids that were a bust and didn't pan out. And you think that will make us better how? And if they didn't work out in college where do you think that next check will come from if not NIL? You think it is harder to make it at Florida or LSU than the Saints or Cowboys?

They are only considered a "bust" as you say because there were 3 All-Americans in front of them.

Example: Trey Amos would have never made it as far as he has if he had "started" his Collegiate career at Alabama.

You have to build a team year to year. Developing and building a team is dead.

Hyprebole, Turbine.
247 only recognizes 30 5 star recruits. Rivals is similar.
Alabama couldn't possible have two teams of 5 star recruits, much less 80 on their roster.
And there are 270 4 star recruits. Not a whole lot of availability there.
The 5 star classification doesn't allow for a whole of error. And you're expeting the 65-70 G5s to sort through the refuse of this group plus the 4 stars to find players who can suitably replace players?
So you're probably going to be sorting through 3 star recruits to replace your players.
You've made the argument that when one player goes in, another necessariy has to go out. No disagreement.
Here's the difference.
What they are getting is a pearl or a diamond.
What we'd very possibly be getting is the remnants of Walmart Ole' Roy.
Again, almost half of the kids that enter the portal go unsigned.

For the longest time teams were two perhaps 3 years old with a mixture of juco players and high schoolers.
Now teams will average 2 years old, not much of a drop off except instead of seasoned juco players who have been playing, they will have to rely on the 1st half of the season to get the rust out of players with incredible potential.
Des has all the cards in his favor, he just needs to play them.
He needs to play them quick, and use all the transfers to his advantage.
Play here get better, and earn a career with a real payday.

This is my hope for every one of our coaches, regardless of sport. Make us better than you found us, go and get P5 money somewhere else.

Re: The Portal Strikes Again
SOME, of you guys need to just adjust to the changing world and be a fan of whoever wears the jersey from year to year. yes, its not like the old days, yes you dont get to become as familiar with every player and story, yes players you like will leave. Dont let it take your joy to be a fan, you have that choice still.

Definitely hyperbole. To exaggerate a point.
Right now Louisiana is signing 1, 2, and 3-star athletes while Alabama is signing 3, 4, and 5-star athletes and yet because Louisiana players hit the field, Alabama found themselves in need.
Look at the situation when Trey Amos signed with Louisiana in 2020. Alabama had signed13% of ALL 5-star athletes over the previous 10 years.
Trey Amos would have never hit the field if he had signed with Alabama out of high school.
And that has to be a selling point Des uses.
Get out of those talent graveyards if you want long term paydays.
