Re: Ron Roberts is gone...
Hate to lose Coach Roberts, but congratulations to him! It is a great sign that Coach Napier, his assistant coaches and this Cajun program is built on solid ground and will not be a one year wonder. This will continue to happen as long as UL continues to be successful. It sucks, but it is something we have been praying for, for a long time!
Re: Ron Roberts is gone...
This is a huge loss, but not unexpected, to lose a DC to a Big XII school is not a bad thing, shows our staff is in demand. Coach Roberts did an amazing job while he was here and deserves to opportunity to showcase his ability on the big stage. This is good, because if like has been said he does not want to be a head coach anymore, being a DC at a Big XII school is a huge step up. We should want this for more of our coaches.
Coach Toney will step up, no issues, now lets see who replaces him.
Re: Ron Roberts is gone...
So we get an SEC Defensive Analyst to coach our linebackers......I think this is a good move. Coach Toney will probably keep most of what Coach Roberts had in place, and we get a really good fill in as a position coach.
Nice move Coach Napier.

Re: Ron Roberts is gone...
The austin Armstrong name sounds really familiar. Was he a grad assistant here before?

I hear it is being reported via twitter.
I suspect it is happening in person.
Re: Ron Roberts is gone...
We need to make sure we hold on to Juluke and Sale.

STOP the presses.
We got braking news.
Roberts strength has been at making in game adjustments.
Re: Ron Roberts is gone...
Looks like Austin Armstrong was a GA here at UL during Billy's first year.
Welcome home Austin!

Sale is going with Napier when he leaves, unless he wants this job as a HC. He pretty much has said that much after he turned down the Alabama OL Coach position. Juluke had some interest recently, but I haven't heard anything else.

-----I remember meeting with coach on an organizational meeting about some reunions----he mentioned the system and the use of analysts and how our deal would not have the money to get top notch names but very hard working younger guys that would be ready to step up when our OCs and position guys left....everybody knew the system very well and could advance to the occasion----obviously this could be tweaked to an extent------one other important aspect is the recruiting part, as this has to me a very big percentage to the position---BTW I am sure that Coach Nap has been getting a ton of calls for positions on the Cajun staff!!!

I think Sale is here as long as Napier is. Sale will move on to be an OC with Napier at his next job. Remember Sale does not call plays here and won't no matter where he goes with Napier. Napier and Sale are a team deal.
Re: Ron Roberts is gone...
We got a steal with Roberts. He was a fairly successful Head Coach that took a coordinator job under Napier, that is rare. Usually this might happen when a HC gets fired and people realize that they are better coordinators rather than HC. That was not the case with Roberts, he stepped down as a HC to become coordinator. I think his end goal is to have a DC job at the highest level. He is well on his way.

I would say a DC job at a school who was one game short of the playoff last year resulting from a coaching change when the HC moved to the NFL is well on his way.

I don't disagree, just thinking Baylor is not an every year team with those kind of results. You are right that Baylor had a special year, I was thinking his next step is a high end SEC job (LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida, etc) or even other schools that are consistently up there (Oklahoma, Ohio State, etc. I would think that he would want to stay in the SEC or Texas areas because of his background.
Re: Ron Roberts is gone...
Did he have any type of buyout?
Re: Ron Roberts is gone...
They are going to kill it when they start recruiting the South Louisiana area. No introduction needed for Roberts and Aranda.
Les Miles has a Louisiana pipeline, but South Louisina kids would much rather play in Waco as compared to Lawrence,KS.
