Re: Another bowl win would put UL in unique group
I would be happier being 8-4 and not getting blown out over and over again by p5 programs and now LTU, App State, and Boise. What is so hard to understand about not making progress, unless you consider threading water progress, and I guess it is to a certain extent.

I saw on the Sun Belt board that Arkansas State will also have 36 wins in four years if they win this years bowl game.
Re: Another bowl win would put UL in unique group
We've made the step from a winning program to a consistently winning program. A small step but a step nevertheless.

Amos, I do not care what happens at stAte. How is it even related to us? We loss to them twice and beat them twice in the last four years. Also interesting to note stAte did not cost us a share of the SBC either year.

So you are interested in what happens at stAte.

Just thought I'd list in the thought of full disclosure.

Where in the last half century of Ragin Cajun football have we ever been a winning program? Since 1970 we are 73 games under .500. It would take 6 undefeated seasons to get to .500. No wonder some aren't happy. You've been thinking we are something we aren't for years. Now that we are becoming a winning program, you feel like it's been like that forever.

My opinion is that during the first three years under coach Hud we went from a losing team to a winning team, we remained a winning team for three straight years. So last year at this time we were a ligit winning team. So right now, at this piont in time, because of the teams performance on the feild this season, we are a ligit consistintly winning team.
To clearify I meant that our progression this season was a progression from winning team to consistintly winning team. There was progress this season. Maybe we have diffirent ideas on how many winning seasons in a row it takes to become a winning team. 1970 is too far back. If we had winning teams since 1970 I would them come up with another adjective like
Perennial or very long winning tradition.
you may feel that winning team means the overall record for the history of the program must be above 500. I did not Mean it that way in my post.

I hated that LTU lost, the Boise lost I think we sort of knew that was coming, but that lost to APP state was a bummer. We should have been 9-3 going into the bowl game.........

I don't think anyone would argue that point, but I am sure someone will.

You can't even go along with a guy that tried to post something realistically positive? He was talking about the last 4 years. We went from finally winning... to winning consistently. He was being POSITIVE!

When he clarifies that he was talking about 4 years, I agree with him. Very easy to see what he was saying as we've been a winning program just never strung together multiple years and that is not the case. Not by a long shot.
I apologize 81, I misunderstood your post. Doesn't change my feelings on the glass half empty crowd.
Re: Another bowl win would put UL in unique group
So I do not get it, did we overachieve with those 8-4 teams, and achieve about right with this 8-4 team.
Did our P5 loses look any worse or better in any of those years? Did not really expect to beat Boise, but did not expect to get keel-hulled either. Was pretty sure we would beat the Dawgs, but they got a QB in his 5th year who was much better than their guy last year.
Granted we suffered two major loses one on offense and one on defense early, but most teams lose important cogs.
Point is this team by any observable standard is about like the Bustle talent ladened teams, and come to think of it, we got some NFL players out of that talent.

Now we've stalled for a year or two and people are in meltdown mode. 4 years people. Not 4 decades. Tell me a mid-major outside of Boise and TCU(no longer midmajor) that is showing the consistency we have. We haven't won the big game yet. So what? We've had a committed Athletic Department for less than a decade.
My point of getting into this thread is because not a single god damn thread can go on here without someone ____ting on the accomplishments of this athletic program. We are about to be in rare company with 4 straight 9 win seasons. Enjoy the ____ing ride.
Not 4 years. 10 years. We have been bowl eligible in 8 of the last 10 years. That is a 'winning program' by most people's measure. The Cajuns are 65-57 over the 10 year span, not stellar, but steady. We have been nowhere near 'the worst program in FBS' since about year 3 of the Bustle era, when Bustle had managed to heal some of the nearly mortal wounds that Baldwin gave the program.

Bowl eligible in 8 of the last 10 years. Case closed.

Since 2004 we've had 5 seasons with an above .500 record and 4 of them were since Hud got here. That is not a clear cut case. .500 football does not constitute as winning. So the 6 other years, you had 1 winning season and that was a 6-5 season. We've been a winning football program for 4 years.
